New World Datsuns...

He is what I've been working on lately (well, 6 years actually) It's a 73' Subaru GL coupe. Only made this body style 2 years. I'll put up a couple pics for now.

When purchased:



I almost gave up at this point:



Because of the cowl area being basically rusted out, I let it sit for a few years while I finished up my TE28 and 520 restos. Started back up in earnest about 6 months ago with the goal being that it needed to have color by the end of June so I can "debut" it at JCCS this year.





Basically spent every weekend and day off getting it to this point (except last weekend, couldn't miss Canby). Figured I'd give you all something other than a Datsun to look at. If you click on the pic, it will link to the album with other pics .

Those are cool little subarus
The paint looks awesome,well done!

besides loving the Datsun, Subaru is right behind it. Use to own a 71 FF1 station wagon that got 40+ miles a gallon and paid $250.00 for it. Wish I still had it.

Thanks for the comments guys. Paint is BC/CC done in the Costco paint booth! I know a guy that was restoring a FF1 coupe over the course of multiple years and finally gave up as he just couldn't find the parts to bring it to the level he wanted. Sold it off to a lady in Washington I believe that kinda finished it up. I did come out looking really nice. Bet not too many people would believe the front brake setup or radiators on a FF1. Now I got a pile of finished parts I need to try and figure out how they go back together. I always seem to do this to myself, figuring it will only the so long to do it and I will remember.

Ya do what ya gots to do! It's really not that bad as I have painted pretty much all my cars this way and have won awards with them.

Looks great! Your engine is almost visible behind that enormous AC compressor.

Some of the finest rides I have seen(also done a few) have been done in areas like this. big props to you looks sweet

nice work and fast. You must not waste a bunch of time on the internet, I take it.

Was this really complete when you got it or have you had to hunt for parts? I can only imagine what a challenge that would be.

No it was not. Had to do A LOT of hunting. I got lucky and found a parts car (turned out to be really rusty) in Oklahoma of all places that supplied a good portion the parts this was missing. The unavailability of rubber parts is the biggest challenge.

Yes, those are factory on the GL trim.

Yes, but I am afraid it will cut what little HP there is in half! The parts car had it so I figured what the hell. Supposedly this is a super rare (dealer) option. The one thing that kinda sucks about the A/C is you can't run the cool (IMO) shifter console and have to use the plastic tray.
