Converted is back 74 b210

So I've been away for awhile, but I'm back with a familiar Datsun. A few days ago I picked up the blue b210 from izzo. Before him it was eagle Adams. I already love this little car and have plans for it. I picked it up and drove 70 miles home with no seat belts, seats not bolted down and a blocked radiator. I loved every minute of that trip, probably the most miles it's driven since it was hauled home a few years ago. Since then it's had a 91 Sentra radiator put in, a new filter for the Webber and a bunch or wiring and other small fixes.

Radiator brackets will be fabricated when I can make it out to a shop. But at the moment this thing is literally a daily project like my old 620 use to be.

I'm really happy I picked this up, I drive to work every day with a big smile. I just got locks and stuff so I can actually lock my car today!

Adjusted the carb and timing a bit today. The secondary doesn't seem to be opening correctly, so I'll mess with that more. But I got a manual in the mail, I have one for all my cars lol

Buy a Haynes, Never been a fan of Clymer book.

Those cars are so simple you won't need either. Wiring diagram is probably all you'll really ever use. I'd suggest photo copying the diagrams and laminating them. Stash them (along with a cheap test light or DVOM) somewhere in the car so you'll have them if you ever have any electrical problems when you're away from home.

Yea I like Haynes better, but this is only for a quick reference for torque specs and wires. I kinda prefer technical write ups online.

Great idea! Luckily besides the switches this thing wasn't hacked that bad. The harness itself is pretty intact.

Seats will be my next purchase I think... hopefully I can round something up soon

Also for what it's worth. The wiring colors are pretty much the same on the 510 and 521 etc. lol. Converting to IR alternator, same process, converting to matchbox, same process... Everything eles seems to be the same wire colors. Tho sometimes I noticed the pinout on the IGN switch maybe a little different.

Good point. You'll find that to be the case with many manufacturers. Starter wire for GM is almost always purple and has been for decades. Fuel pump power wire is gray, etc.

Haha these are my temporary seats while I'm on the search for some nice z seats. Random drivers... one bolt holding it. The passenger is a first gen crx, three line up and could probably get the 4th if I bend the tab at 90 degrees.

Then I also installed a speedo cable so I know how fast I'm going and got the rear window defrost hooked up and hopefully working.

So good news, I now have a ir alternator! I used one from an 81 Subaru gl, 60 amps and literally a direct bolt on upgrade. I also made my jumpers for the external regulator. One of the best things about this alternator, it was only $32. I did run into a weird issue tho, my charge light is currently on... but I have some weird stuff going on with my harness. I'll do some testing tomorrow to make sure all is well.

the light reads the voltage from the regulator. you have to add a resister so the light goes out...mine does the same thing

Which wire needs a resistor? I read that the other day, but I haven't been able to find where I read it when I tried to look it up

i dont remember..i think it is the charge light wire...i decided to not worry about it till the ka is in and running

from what i just read there has to voltage on both sides of light to make it go out...something about if one side loses voltage it grounds and turns the light on...i wonder if bypassing the regulator is causing the loss to the light

That's kinda what I was thinking, but I read something about a diode or resistor (not sure which) having to be added for some ir alternators to make the charge light function correct

Z cars have these problems, 510s don't. I had to add a diode to my friends z. But on those I think it's an issue of them not starting.
