Jacob's other projects

Figured I would start a thread for other things I do.

To get caught up what has happened since my vacancy here, I went on a week long vacation to Mexico, right after getting the ball rolling on some plans. The idea, My mom would move out of the house, my sister would move in, and Kyle (the now Ex Datsun owner) would move in.

My mom was slow. Took a month longer than anticipated for her to formally move out, but we pushed, and now things are settling.

Anyways stuffs. Did a preliminary cut down of the back yard:

New struts and front wheel bearing on my moms car. Car rides a lot smoother and tighter, and quieter with the new wheel bearing.

(jack is only there to add support, I had to climb in the back and the car wanted to rock)

Nice! As soon as you're done with the yard you can start on the garage.

Friend 3 got a mountain bike so he could come join us on the trails. Bought it used, and promptly started to service it. Repacked all the bearings, new chain, new cables... Now it all works nice and smooth!

My sister also got into a car accident. Some kid decided to cross 4 lanes of busy road. My sister was in lane 4, with a SUV blocking her view of the crossing car. SUV nailed it brakes, my sister nailed the quarter panel of the crossing car. Her car did whatever it should have, (2012 Versa) and the front end got pulled sideways 3-4 inches. Other car has minimal damage, but spun around a lot. At least she wasnt at fault.

Anyways, her credit is shot right now, so I hunted for the best car I could find at a reasonable price. I fount a 06 Subaru Legacy Wagon, decently clean, 1 owner, 151k. Talked the guy down to 5300 after brakes and spark plugs/wires. Drives straight, decent tread life on really nice tires. Checked the Timing Belt, its a OEM and looks like its in phenomenal condition. Headlights were dead, but turned out to be a dead reverse light fuse.

Did a bit of that too!

Needed room for some of Kyle's stuff. Plus he has a Honda CB500, that is a bit cafe racer... it needed a home.

Started to clean out the garage. Now you can actually walk around. We got rid of all my scrap metal (made $23 on that), Scrapped the couch, and everything else immediately obvious. Cut out a lot more of the garage carpet, its gone too. Now I need to start going through all the cabinets tossing things, and homing everything else.

Its actually cleaner than the pics show, as there is still a bunch of stuff we tossed in the pics.

Glad your sister was okay. The Legacy will probably be a better long term car anyway.
Garage still needs work but it's better than the shop space I have right now.

Started doing lighting in the garage. Turned out to be a pain. House had 3" round receptacles with 4" porcelain light fixtures... I needed to go to a outlet, so out came the 3" box. And I put in a 4" octagon box. Then an outlet.

Home Depot has 3ft long LED lights that do 3000 lumens. Only $15. So the plan is two per corner of the garage. Other goal was to have two of the front corner lights come down next to the garage door so I still had light with the door up.

Light is sooo much better now. Well worth the investment. Much brighter than the 120W light I had up there before.

And it totally worked for other goal, now at night I have light at the front of the garage with the door open.

Also, weed eater head was not turning too well. Took it apart and after some heat, hammer, press, and a angle grinder, Got it spinning smoothly again. So its fixed!

Ugh. I have no envy. I spent around $40k getting The Compound ready to market. The roofing guys were far and away the worst of the bunch. I wish you the best of luck.

That's great! If they know your mom you're golden. Should be smooth sailing -- except for the rain.

Are they doing a tear off or are they putting another layer over the one on there?

I have no doubt about it. They have been fast thus far. I mean, they used 3 guys today just to put material on the roof.

I hope they get most of it done tomorrow, I seen a crew get the house down the street done in 12/14 hours, but the roofing material was put on the roof a couple days before.
