71 Turquoise Goon

Never ever intended on getting a goon. But My last datto (1978 620) caught fire and died a shitty death. Luckily, Levi and I have been collecting 70-73 parts as well as certain 69 specific parts that if something came up I could get a 510 running fairly easily.

This was my truck a week before the fire..

Then it caught fire because of the gigantic rust holes, something fell through the floor, then to the exhaust thus sparking the fire :fuu:

So now Im left with a fresh motor and trans situation with No Datsun to put them in to drive. Luckily a friend had a 510 wagon sitting in his driveway that he was graciously willing to part with. So I bought it (on july 6th). Huge thanks to Levi,Adam and Jessi as well as a handful of other friends!

Got it home and got wrenching along with a ton of folks from the Datsun community in Eugene.

Now while this is going on, My brother Levi and I are building a 4dr 510 and stumbled across two 69 dashes that we were able to make one good one out of. Because of this i now have a perfectly good 70 dash that I have to decide to go true 69 or 69 with later dash for the look of it. This Wagon helped me decide. So i swapped it in.

While all the wiring stuff was going on, Levi and some others were working hard on the engine bay getting the l20b fitted in and ready to go.

Had some issues clearing the oil pan on the crossmember, but it ended up having to shift a tad to fit, but yet it worked out finally!

......Beauty shot...

Back to work..

Cleared!

Cleaned up the wiring and spent the next day or two connecting all the wiring, taking our time and getting it all dialed in.

Levi even fabricated a sweet ass floating pedal setup inspired from a 620..

All this started on July 6th, its about thursday in this build... Day 5....

Got some Iron Crosses in town cheap, luckily they were 14s, so i took my 620's 14s and put them on these IC's as a cheap fix since nickle and diming this goon into play has put me in the poor house as my momma says.

Painted em up all nice and purdy.

Now for the chrome. I borrowed my 69's trim for now, I had to complete the grille! HAHA

And I painted the primer grey hood the same color as the wheels until I can color match it back to turqoise.

Tried a little on the red fender, found some very close in color paint called "dolphin" made by Montana paint. with a white primer base I should get pretty close to matching up the color.

Got it road worthy, brake lights, headlights, registration etc and on the road Saturday. So all in all it took a week to get to this point. time to relax for a day or two. I'm tired of wrenching right now... She runs sooo fucking nice! gotta get the tach hooked up and a little lower and i think i'll be pretty damn stoked.

The green 521 is a friend named Dale. Not sure if he's on NW Datsuns

Helped push this car home today. -_-
Guess there's bound to be a little rust washing through for a while.
