it was dark before i finally got to taking pics, my parents minivan decided to blow a thermostsat and act like the headgaskets were toast so i had to tear into it before i could molest this new beauty

this thing is strait!
Image
Image
Image

love the old school rims and hub cap with the small white wall, it matches my dads personality IMO
Image

here is one of the major issues
Image

more pics and update in a week or so when my garage finaly clears up of all the other projects ive seemed to acquire

pulled my dads new truck and my brother new truck into the garage on sunday for a good looking over/oil change
Image

ya so maybe i missed an issue, maybe the battery should have fallen out
Image

oh well,

garden hose breather hose has to go
Image

adjusted the valves, check the breaks and ordered parts, started to check all the basics and give it new fluids so i know its been done, then.......

Image

Image

This is what came out of my dads rad, ya that's right it's brown, and thick, and nasty, and if i EVER hear of some one putting stop leak in their cooling systems I'm personally gunna apply powder and slap the shit out of em. The rad is shot but not due to the "additives", and the system needs flushed........

Also, i picked up a parts truck

new front suspension
Image

Image

waiting on new blocks then we can raise it an inch or so

also picked up new floor boards and an inner fender/battery tray to have welded in!

new heater core hoses and grommets came in today

Image

picked up a closed chamber A87 head! it goes to the machinist tomorrow

Image

Image

Image

one of the rear shocks was blown so they also got replaced
Image

Image

Rear breaks got new shoes and a good cleaning
Image

then the real fun began, the PO monk stopped by to give me a hand with breathing new life into the floor and battery tray

Image

Image

the floor is tacked in now!

Head gasket isn't completely blown but I think I see signs of mixing fluids/blow by

Image

Bottom of the gasket
Image

Top of the gasket
Image

The new head is back from the machine shop
Image

Waiting on the new water pump, I picked up a NOS Nissan pump cus I hate the aftermarket crap that's out there and I only wanna do this once to this truck

Then i gotta clean the block surface and clean out the head bolt holes and it can start to go back together

with that said the new water pump and gasket came in
Image

Image

also thinking of ordering a KA oil pump

KA oil pump is here if im gunna do this i might as well over do it right

Image

skibbert came over this weekend and gave me a hand with finishing up the welding on the floor pans!

Image

and it gave me a good excuse to go see his coupe!

next up will be undercoating the new floorpan, stripping and cleaning the whole cab floor and then POR 15.

Once thats done i can start to re-install the interior, new gauge bezel, new radio, speakers ect ect

LED bulbs came in today
Image

FUCKING FUCKING FUCK!!!!! MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!!!!

dropped the god damn chain............

Fuck it i have a 4 day weekend im pulling the motor and re gasketing the whole thing

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

step one accomplished
Image

now to find a jap timing set over a holiday weekend.....

cylinder head is back off
Image

Image

engine and trans is out
Image

a pause for dinner and the cause and ill get back to it and get the engine on the stand

if only if only yello, im working on it.

motor and trans are seperated and the motor is on the stand and broken down
Image

grabbed some loose parts and scrubbed em up some in the tub
Image

ill get em cleaner tomorrow

the timing chain that was there was a jap timing chain! so no need to replace it and the guides and tensioner look good to so i can put the motor back together!

need to pick up a clutch and some trans seals tomorrow or friday

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
i pulled my spare 4 speed out of storage and came to the sad conclusion that its a short tail so it wont work in the truck. Which let me down the road of finding a 5 speed......
Image

I was at PnP when they opened at this morning with jassifrass and converted to datsun and picked up a good 5 speed and an el dizzy for less than $100!
Image

Image

off to dinner with the family and i should be able to get everything cleaned up tomorrow!

got the greasy ass block & oil pan cleaned up
Image

also go the new el dizzy cleaned up
Image
Image

front timing cover and what ever the plate is called between the block and the trans got cleaned up
Image

the engine bay is cleaned and ready to go
Image
Image

ditched the grill and headlights to clean up the front end a bit too
Image

then i got a wild hare a preped the front end for a little black paint behind the grill
Image

got the primer on!
Image

got the black paint on
Image

got the crank gear replaced
Image

chased all the threads everywhere on the block - timing cover, oil pan, timing parts, and head bolts
Image

and this is why
Image

timing chain guides are on
Image

started stripping the floors for POR 15
Image
Image

gunna have to weld in floors on the passenger side too :/
Image

and i scored a $20 shelf for parts!
Image

more cleaning and rust removal
Image

found some holes in the passenger side too so i picked up some fiber glass to reinforce it
Image

POR 15 and fiber glass is done! and ROCK HARD!!!
Image

Image

Image

also treated a few spots in the engine back with rust converter and primer
Image

Image

Image

Image

not a perfect color match or really even close but it will work for now

started cleaning up parts
Image
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then it was onto the motor assembly

timing parts are on
Image

prepped the block surface and off we go
Image

Heads on
Image

thought this was a cool pic that shows how a timing block works
Image

Got the front cover on, new KA oil pump in and clocked, then the oil pan on, and then i snapped a bolt installing the water pump.....

Image

so i grabbed my eazy out kit and removed the stud only to find out the hole is cross threaded and i need a new timing cover

picked up an L20 motor from RedBanner monday, and tore it down last night to get the timing cover

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now i gotta clean up the new timing cover and tear down the motor from my dads truck to install the timing cover

the old fly wheel needed some help so i tossed out a feeler and dislexic dime answered with a new one :

Old
Image

Floors are done, seat is in, and new black retractable seatbelts are in
Image

Skib, jassifrass, nismo dr and I dropped in the motor and trans on sunday
Image

Image

Image

Now to plumb and wire everything
Image

headlights and grill are in!
Image

heater core is cleaned up with new foam added
Image

heater core is back in
Image

Image

Image

door panels are going back on
Image

Motor is about buttoned up
Image

Image

Got the trans back in! i was just tired and doing something wrong cus it worked just like i thought it should have the 2nd time around.

So with that out of the way i got back into the swing of things

Drum breaks are all adjusted and ready to go
trans is in
interior is going back together
picked up a head unit and speaker wire so i can install the gauge bezel
valves are checked and adjusted
painted under the cowl

still to do before it can be a DD:
install drive line
finish installing the interior
figure out the fan issue - the pulled from a 280 zx was what i was told was right but it isnt .
install cowl
install hood
exhaust welding

and drive this SOB!!!

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
ok, soooooo its been a long time since iworked on this project. Since my car accident i havent been able to do nearly as much wrenching as i used to but im getting back into the swing of things now!!!

Lest weekend i got the new stereo wired in and ready to go
center console is in
old water pump was taken out in prep for on with a fan clutch

Things to do:
find a replacement hard line for coolant that goes around the front of the motor
install the new water pump
install the one piece drive line from my old truck
install the speakers
the whole gauge cluster is still out - so install it as well
rewire a few things

and get this one on the road!!!

got the new one piece driveline in!

Got the water pump in!

I just need to figure out this last coolant hardline and the gauges then its off to the exhaust shop and on to a DD status

FINALLY!!!!

All that is fixed now and I need only a distributor gasket to try again

So me, jessi, and draynor spent a few hours cleaning up and organizing so we could work on the truck.

Cus of all that the tuck only got a little love yesterday

Got the new black door panels on
Image

also got a new glove box door in and package tray!!

and for my own reference this is whats left to make it a DD:

Reinstall carb
check timing
get the truck to fire (electrical issue somewhere is preventing it from firing)
finish tach wiring
finish gauge bezel install
finsih radio install
put in the speakers

Good job man...

Seems like the E brake light is always effed. its either the switch on the ebrake or just wriggle the light bulb lol. maybe reverse it. Get some LED's up in that biznatch.
