Id say do it. Those trans missions are strong man. There is a lot of information i found when i looked around when I had the hardbody sitting in my yard
The FW###C is a common one (replace pound signs with an actual model number) But the one ending in C, is like nissans second strongest tranny. You can flop an L series 5 speed bell housing on it and it will mate to your L series. I'd so go for it.

then what iz de question? hahaha. Should fit in there. They are long tails. so a heads up, its a lot easier stuffing the trans in with the motor same time. Dropping out the bottom or putting back in is a cunt. I just did this :|

lol

from my understanding the truck trans were stronger.. I'd get one of those.. Either hardbody, or even a 720. Those have torque motors pushing them...

wouldn't the internals be the same one them if there the same trans code? I know there are some that have diff length tail ends but I thought from the code that internals would be same. but I do know that 240sx trans take a beating and hold up to high hp and torque builds with no probs.

Best easy fit is an FS5W71B from a Z series motor. Make sure that it's 31.5" long. It has the same orientation and will bolt to a KA motor and is also the same length as the '74 620 F4W71B four speed so no mods to driveshaft or mount. The '81-'86.5 720 2wd (gas engine) and the '80-'83 200s(S110) had them. Avoid 4x4 5 speeds as they do not have a speedometer drive in them. The 71B is adequate for a KA motor.

Naturally the FS5W71C is the better as it's about twice as strong and designed to handle the KA, however they are different in length. The shortest being the ones from the D21 truck. Close but maybe not enough, never heard of anyone getting one to fit without driveshaft mods. All 71Cs are the same relative strength and easily handle a 300zx non turbo.

D-21 vs. S14? 71Cs Same tranny, different lengths.

The S12 was '86.5 and on but before the first S13 240sx. Looks longer than the D21 above.

Any of the above will fit if shortening the driveshaft anyway. Shifter placement will be much further mack with the longer transmissions. None with fit the rear mount.

in addition to Kami's post.

Are the 620 4 speeds and 5 speeds the same length? So if there is a 620 four speed currently I can just swap out the 5 speed yeah?

There were Z24i motors in the 720 till '86.5 when the D-21 was introduced. (the 720 only had 71B 5 speeds)

D21 Z24i '86.5 through '89 or later KA24E, '90 through '97 used the 71C 5 speed and as far as I know they were the same transmission. There were actually 71C 4 speeds used in the '88 and '89 D21s so watch out for those. The engine tag will say whats in the truck.

Correct. All L series (4 or 6 cylinder) 71B 4 and 5 speeds were the same length (31.5") and totally swap-able with no mods. Well I suppose you would have to put the 4 speed speedo pinion and sleeve in the 5 speed to assure that the speedometer stays accurate but this isn't really a mod.

I've heard those numbers also but have never verified them. I've asked others for numbers and they are always different because they all measure them differently. Some to the dust shield, some to the shifter and some are actually a sloping distance from bell to output which will always be longer.

If the Z24i D21 IS 30.5" then an inch short ...that's close enough to work.
