So I got this B210.

It's '78 four door, four speed car and I know very little about it (Datsuns in general)... Kinda lost on this what's a good motor and transmission combo and what rear end/gears are preferred. I'd like to have around 180hp or so and mild built chassis (roll bar, suspension, brakes, and what not). I'd like to use as a driver/light track duty or Bosozoku the fuck out if I'm not going to see any track time with it.

KA swap. 155 HP stock IIRC... braaaaap. 280zx front suspension, big breaks ftw.

Is the 280ZX bit a bolt in thing or chop/cut weld deal? I do like the idea of a KA but I don't want to do it, I was hoping there was a motor of about the same vintage that bolts in and makes power (I want to keep carbs, and not wire it for fuel-injection).

Eh. no. Unless you stuff a V8 in there. Then its just retarded heavy and you lose all handling.

BTW, ka swap. You need an aftermarket fuel pump, a couple relays. In reality, its not that much more work putting in a fuel injected KA vs a carb motor.

To swap ZX, you need to cut the purches off your current setup. Use the spring purches, springs, top hats etc. The B210 setup is the same as 510. So maybe you could purchase 510 setup from Troy Ermish and bolt it on.

510 crossmember will bolt in then an L motor will bolt to that.

Not a lot of options with the rear.

The A is a capable motor though.

I was thinking only the ZX brakes and suspension stuffs. I don't really care about the work to do a KA swap, but I wouldn't swap a KA I'd do a 13B/SR/4AG which I don't want to do on this car. I want a kinda period correct resto-mod thing...

What kind of power can I get out of... Hell I don't know what kind of motor my car has, where can I find the cast number?

510 wagon rear-end is a near-bolt in for the sedans and only a touch wider. For B210 suspension stuff I've just sort of been considering them a short 510 wagon.

:troll:

Oh Gawd. Don't swap any of those motors in.
4AG---weak. No where near the power potential of the other 3. HP can get expensive real fast for little gain with any combination of the 4A swaps/franken-motors.
SR---meh. Expensive. For half the price a KA will decimate.
13B. If rotaries are your thing.
KA. Easy. Abundant. Well-documented. Best bang for the buck of the 4 listed.

You have an A series motor. Probably an A12 or an A14. There is a plate on the firewall that will tell you.
You want period correct? It's either A or L. A12, A14, A15, L16, L18, L20B or even an LZ.
Anymore-it's common to see KAs in Datsuns for the simple reasons I already listed.

Check out the 1200wiki pages for tons of good information on anything Sunny.

4AG's are stupid cheap, light and rev happy. But I don't really like SR/KA motor's as I'm not that into Late model Nissan stuff. So I was looking into a high winding carbureted engine.

Pay to play.

The L16 winds better than the 18. And the L18 better than the 20.
L20B has more power though out the gate.

I'm a huge fan of the LZ.
But I am also swapping an L18 into a B310 here real soon.

It won't take a lot to turn a B210 into a screamer.
Even just an L16 is an increase in size.

I think this thread has gone on long enough with out pics.
Need some. Post your whip.

If you're looking for period correct. A series is the way to go. But no way you will get near 180HP man :\

If you, or you have someone who can, make manifolds. I'd suggest maybe a built A motor with turbo, or even a built L series motor with a turbo. you can run carb turbo. And will get a decent amount of power. hell, an L motor with just a weber in a B car is powerful. An LZ would be nuts, and an LZ with turbo you'd shit.... They have decent power and torque, twin side draft carbs. Yes please.

LZ22/23 in a B210 is just down right dangerous.
Sign me up!

That may just have to be phase 2 in my plan to rule the world.
LZ'd 210. I win.

I think a serious LZ is about the only "period correct" option that's going to get anywhere near the 180hp goal. I always liked the U20 too. Not cheap and not common but they sound really nice and were pretty peppy.

Have you ever even driven an a series car op?

I rode in a car an A series/4 speed with a friend.
3 hour-ish road trip.

That car was a kick in the pants. Fully capable.
A12 1200 coupe.

Last thing we need is another 510 getting cut up to fit an L motor into a Sunny.
Who was that jerkov anyways?

An a14 with cam carbs and lightened flywheel in any b series car is a handfull. And fun as shit. Get over 30 mpg on a. Uilt rev happy motor? Yeah. Its awsome. Even without 180hp. The thing is whatever car you drove that had 180 is not going to feal like a b with 180. A 100hp b is an insanely quick little car. Power to weight yo.
