Re: The "Retired" 510

Glad you've got that frontend about dialed. FWIW that oil inside the strut tube was was likely to aid in heat dissipation. Well don't I feel smart now. A quick google search told me oil in the housing is a thing. Still though, oil was spraying out the top of the strut when compressed. at least some...

Re: The "Retired" 510

Got the rest of the suspension sorted out today. 3.5 hours for the left side, and about 1.5 hours on the right. That's learnin' for ya! The car rides much smoother and feels so much tighter. https://s22.postimg.cc/n2xtybqdt/IMAG1888.jpg As far as ride height goes, it's just about perfect for me, I'd...

Re: Lifting Front End, Trying to Determine what I can do with These Struts/Inserts

Haha, true that. I got the sleeves from the shop today, but now I've got another worry. https://s4.postimg.cc/ldsakmqgt/received_10208391296434842.jpg I need the pillow ball to rest on the sleeve, but I also want the sleeve to be wide enough to rest on the needle bearings in the top hat. Almost like...

Re: Lifting Front End, Trying to Determine what I can do with These Struts/Inserts

First picture is a trimmed ZX top hat. Notice the center hole is centered between the studs? The second hole is what a stock 510 strut top looks like. https://s3.postimg.cc/xciuh4l5f/IMAG0029.jpg https://s3.postimg.cc/wgz99cwir/IMAG0028.jpg Got camber? Re: The "Retired" 510

Over the past couple days I got a few small, yet high impact, things done on the 510. I'm still waiting on the front coil over conversion, got a couple parts at the machine shop thrall be ready on Tuesday, so hopefully next weekend I'll get the suspension taken care of. I met up with Laecaon a coupl...

Re: 510 Parts [OP Edited with Added Parts]

Still have everything except the glove box. I mentioned above that I'd like to save the gauge cluster because I may end up switching to a newer dash, but if you've got a trade idea it doesn't hurt to send it my way.

Re: Lifting Front End, Trying to Determine what I can do with These Struts/Inserts

So I've got the sleeves, collars, top hats, and camber plates. Problem is, I'm conflicted when it comes to the caster. How might I achieve proper caster when the original mounting position is off due to the PO chopping it up? Some questions... What does the top of the strut look like on a stock 510?...

Re: Lifting Front End, Trying to Determine what I can do with These Struts/Inserts

You dont need bump stops. I never ran them, and had my car decently low on factory 510 springs (86lb). Ok, threaded sleeves sit on your welded perch (Orings go inside to take up wiggle). Collars thread onto sleeve, spring goes on. Top hat goes on. Then camber plate. This is where you may or may not...

Re: Lifting Front End, Trying to Determine what I can do with These Struts/Inserts

Techno sells some $20 top hats. I dont know where else to get some, other than me making them... Do you weld? If so you could make some lower perches pretty easily. And height adjustment could be done on the car too. Actually that would be cake for me to make aswell... It was the camber plate price...

Re: Lifting Front End, Trying to Determine what I can do with These Struts/Inserts

Can anyone tell me what diameter camber plate will be goo? I just ordered some plates that are 4.5" in diameter and am worried they aren't big enough!!!!

Edit, it was the 6" that I ordered. Had myself all worried there.

The alt was putting out around 16V at the terminals, and pushing a steady 58 amps at idle. at the battery I'm getting about 14.3V, so There has to be some regulation in there somewhere, lol.

Anything with a more reasonable price? I'd love to spend 10,000 on the suspension, but it might ruin me. haha.

Re: Loud Pop, Then no Power

The only electronics in the car atm are the lights, and they work fine. That would have been really loud for a fuse, but that may be normal? I'm not sure, never heard a fuse blow audibly. Would the alternator be newer or older than what should be in there? I wasn't able to find anything when I searc...

Re: Lifting Front End, Trying to Determine what I can do with These Struts/Inserts

I planned on going to the meet, but ran into some scrap electrical issues last night and now I'm afraid to drive the 510 top much.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get some top hats?

Loud Pop, Then no Power

Last night I was driving home in the 510, which is when I found out that turning the headlights on was causing momentary loss of engine power. Anyway, I heard a loud pop, something like a 22 rifle shot or a tire popping. I pulled over and checked the tires, they were fine. But the car wouldn't start...

Probably, but how involved is that? Will the struts be useable if I don't like them?
