Currently our two daily drivers are broken, blown engine on the wif'es car and a blown transmission on mine. I've been driving the B210 exclusively for most of the last month. Did get some time tonight where I wanted to be productive but didn't feel like crawling under the one car to work on the transmission. So I cleaned up this extra valve cover I had. Ground down the crappy repaint and cleared, came out kinda of neat.

nice man. I still have one floating around. Those little fuckers, even with primer and paint, after all these years pit out with rust. takes a bit of work to make em smooth.

Yeah this one is sort of an extra off an A13, was repainted poorly with a slightly darker blue. I kinda like the bare metal look, keep having to put off just stripping the b down to bare metal. Doesn't help that James (510keeper) keeps making it look so good on his 510....

Actually basically no rust, only benefit to living in Cali reall though....

I had him help install the seatbelts in the rear (although I think the bolt in the pic may need to come back out to install the seat, I forget which side the strap goes under). He was having a blast.

I've got the Benz transmission swapped out and everything back together so I should have some time in the near future to start working on this again more seriously.

Been working on something else, thought the vent covers could use an updating. This would have screen underneath to keep out the leaves and would do away with the plastic vent part. I just need to build two prototypes to see if this looks decent.

Talked to our machinist/engineer at work who runs the laser cutter (190w), should be about $40 per hour with a 1 hour minimum to cut stuff on the laser (this is the in-house rate) and he thinks he could crank out 2 per hour once all setup. I need to proof the design first and then I'll get a couple cut likely.

However, I've been insanely busy lately with work kicking my ass and both kids and the mother-in-law living with us, also been trying to find a job for when my contract ends in Sept.... really haven't even gone in the garage to do anything in weeks.

Thanks, anyway on to the Datsun stuff.....

Bottom of the rear seat and the seat belts got put in a while ago just no pics until now. I have the back too, but will put that in last as it easier to move stuff without it.

Decided to do some late night work in the garage after the kids went to bed. So I built a quick and dirty steering brace. Made a cardboard template and transferred it over for the brace, then drilled the holes on the mill. I slotted them slightly to account for errors on my part with the calipers as I didn't want to take the top plate off of the steering box. Found a bit of slop on one of the axis I'm going to have to adjust out of the mill though, either that or just convert to ball screw (later when I have the money probably). Ended up using a small cutoff to rough it out and then bent it with a BFH. Cleaned up the shape with the grinder and painted it. Still need to decide if I'm going to weld in a strut to brace it, probably. Ugly but functional, however I feel like I may consider this one a practice one and redo it until I'm satisfied with how it comes out. Still a bit rougher quality than I like.

Changed off the throwout bearing. The hammer happened to perfectly fit the inside lip, used a chuck which fit the inner lip of the bearing to tap it in with a rubber mallet. Will be using a LUK clutch likely.

Put together this trans mount, I still need to get the trans sitting just right, the transmission jack I bought for doing the heavy ass Mercedes trans has been great for this. I painted it after this but no new pics yet. The 5 speed it is getting is a bit of a fat bitch so I'm probably going to have to remove the original trans mounts, they're not useful anyways so no great loss.

Also got the final placement eyeballed. Kind of a big bitch so I might need to reroute some of the lines, they just clear with it crammed all the way up. I'll see the final placement when I get it mounted to the engine. The trans still needs to come back out for some "adjustements" so this is mostly just placement. Also put a new slave on it to go along with the throwout bearing.

Still need to drill the holes into the floor for the mount, kind of regretting doing the carpet first now :fuu:

Ended up stopping work in the garage after I spent 20 minutes looking for some flywheel bolts that were sitting on the bench right in front of me.

Didn't get any work done on it today though, as we ended up taking the boys to the Aerospace museum.
