Thats what im thinking maybe. Idk. Euther way it shouldnt be anywhere so its getting cleaned out. The weekend of the 13th i will be breaking the truck in off road. Going camping up cultus mountain. 70 miles on pavement followed by 30 miles of 4x4 trails to the top of the mountain. Means i have a week and a half to get it squared away. Fingers crossed!

Pff clean the sand out of your vag... truck, your truck

Check the spare under the truck n test it for leaks, always handy to have a spare! Make sure it takes the same lugs too.

Jm getting really sick of working on the wirkng on this damn thing..... Whoever wired the webber wired the choke to a dead wire.... So it has been in the choked out position since the carb was installed. Hopefully bow i will get a few mpgs back. Had to rewire the fusible link for the headlights cause they were hack jobped so you would randomly lose headlights and randomly get them back. Had to re re repair the harnes ground because it periodicaly has no lights at all..... Now im trying to figure out why i randomly lose brake lights and turn signals. It was termittant but since i lost brake and turn signals the last time i have yet to get them back. I get power to the rear lights... But not the fronts so i have to sort thay out..... Also found that jt had no hazard flasher unit. So i jnstalled one of those.

If it were me, and the harness is hacked up like you say it is, I would just go to the wrecking yard, find a 1986 harness that is not hacked up and remove it with all its components(less than 2 hours), and install it in your truck, that is what I would do, but I have done this type of thing several times, so it doesn't take me that long, half day maybe to remove and replace once I have the replacement harness, it's not that hard to do, but you have to take the dash out, and a lot of stuff out behind the dash to get the harness in position.
You could save time by leaving you components bolted/screwed to the dash, but I usually leave everything connected so I know what wires go to what component.
I have never used an 86 harness though, I use the 1980 harness if I am going with a L20b, or I use the 81/82 harness if I am going with the diesel engine.

Yeah something to consider. It's just taking out all the excessive wiring that was installed, and figuring out where wires are supposed to go that are not connected anymore. I'm pretty sure I sorted out most of it at this point. I was really tired and grouchy cause I had been fuckin with it all for hours prior. I need to figure out why my front turn signals are not working but I think it's a ground issue. Or the combo switch. Which has also been a pain. But I'm holding out to buy a new one.

What about the flasher unit(good?/the backs work?) and that 4 way switch, the turn signal power wires go threw that also, it's all so interconnected, tying everything into each other like they did is a pain in the ass.
Grounds are very important in the 720 wiring harnesses, if you put a ground where it's not supposed to be, it screws everything up, a good example is the headlight circuit, if you introduce a ground to that circuit after the relay, it fucks everything up, I should know because I used a 720 harness in my 521 kingcab project, I thought that I could just connect the bright indicator light wire into the 521 dash cluster, but if you look at the 720 wiring diagram, there are 2 wires for that circuit, the reason is, that light cannot be grounded out in the instrument cluster the way the it is in 521 instrument cluster, it screwed the whole headlight circuit up, because that introduces a ground where there is not supposed to be one.
If you try to tie into a wire for power to install a set of fog lights, that will also screw shit up, why you ask, because them fog lights have to ground out somewhere to work, and that is introducing a ground where there was not one before.
The only place I have successfully grabbed power (to make a diesel tack work) without any issues is the wire supplying power to the 4 way flasher unit, everything still worked correctly.
I have also had issues with the combination switch on the column(wipers/turn signals/headlights/horn), I was never able to figure that one out, just had to get another one from the wrecking yard, but they would not work at all.
Do you know that the headlights go threw a relay on the fuse block, and sometimes that relay acts up, and when you turn the headlights on, it can take several minutes for the park lights and headlights to come on, and they don't come on together, usually the park lights come on first, and then the headlights come on later, and at first the brights will come on and not go off till the relay warms up or something, then you can actually drive it without blinding everyone.

It's really a strange harness, you can be trying to fix something, and all of a sudden it works, but the next day it's like you fixed nothing, I have just gotten used to it's quirks, except for the starter wire issue, that one just pisses me off.

Well new tires are setup. Should be mounting them on the truck on Friday before I hit the road to go camping. Should be nicer driving the trails in something with a little more aggressive tread. Went with 31/1050/15's. they will go on the wheels that are currently on the truck till I can make it down to grants pass to pick up my 15x8 rally's that will go on the truck. I will have to cut the fenders I'm sure as I haven't ordered a lift kit yet. I don't much care. Lol. She will get a 3" lift sometime in the next to near future.

I actually figured it out. It was the ground for the front lights. It got damaged when I was bending the bumper back into place lol. She is happy as of now

Well on a lighter note I just flushed out the cooling system through the radiator and the block. Managed to flush out alot of crap. Lots of sand and other sediment. Filled it back up with some fresh coolant and stuffs. Started it up, let it idol and held it at 3 grand for a while and it never went above half the gauge. It's hard to say if its better as I haven't driven it yet. But I have a few days before the trip to drive it around and let it heat cycle a few times. *fingers crossed. I will be replacing the radiator either way.... This is really just a band aid to get me by for a few weeks till I can afford a good replacement.

Man I am slacking in pictures.... Nothing to see really I guess. Here is mine and Brian's trucks. We swapped one of his wheels onto the truck so I could see what kind of clearance I'm going to have to make to avoid rubbing. Not much surprisingly. He has 31's but they are a little worn out so mine will be slightly bigger. Will have to clearance the rear of the fender a little for full lock. I'm happy :)
