I rinsed off the loose layer of funk. The battery won't take a charge (it's 6.5 years old) so I hung the jump box on it. Primed the fuel pump and cranked it for about 20 seconds with the ignition module unplugged so I could get some oil pressure behind the timing chain tensioner. Then I plugged the module back in, let it crank for about 5 seconds and it started right up. No rattles. No smoke.
I let it idle in front of my dad's shop for about 5 minutes then jumped in and drove it home. I always forget how rattley it is inside...and fun to drive...and zippy.

So, it's home now. Still needs a deep cleaning and then it's time to put pen to paper and formulate a plan of attack.

Well you did put a sensible engine into it. So it should just start and run.

Make it not so rattly, and then maybe keep it...

I'm still pretty conflicted. It's a great car and I really like driving it but I just don't use it much anymore. I think I'd rather cash out and spend the money on my pickup.

Jumped it. Washed it. Drove it about 10 miles. Pushed it in the corner for the winter.

At least it looks good sitting there. Just try to keep from piling building materials on it.

Sweet wagon! I miss my 510 wagon. I love my Maxima wagon, but the 510 was super sweet, and a lot lighter. Plus if I had it to do over again, I'd do everything different. ;) Older and wiser.

Just ordered some parts and talked to my painter. Look for some pre-sale activity in the coming weeks.

Totally agree.

I remember when you finished the wheels and thinking that it looks perfect the way you did it.

Thanks, guys. As my projects usually go, I get them usable then use them for years and they never get finished. Then a do a bunch of work right before I sell them. It's stupid.

Read through the tread and assume your selling the wagon now. Sort of sad since you've put love, money and time into it to get it where it's at now.
You probably won't fine another in that good of condition and know the maintenance history if you decide to find another 510 wagon. I'm not trying to convince you on keeping it. Just reminds me of a car I owned 15 yrs ago. Use to have a 68 Dodge Dart GT 2 dr that I was 2nd owner of and now wished I'd kept it cause it was in great shape, needed very little maintenance.. :( sellers remorse again.
anyways, just my nickels worth of thought.

I 100% hear you. I feel that way about the 240Z I had. Very original car and worth quite a bit now. I thought I'd really miss my 1200 but surprisingly I don't. I'll probably miss this one on occasion but I'd really rather free up the cash and space to finish my '35. I'm sitting on 7 cars and 4 motorcycles right now and it's just too much. The wagon and the Bastard Scrambler are the 2 I'm least attached to.

I thought I would miss my 710's. But it's so nice to not worry about them, store them, put money into them, etc. I hope you get good money for the wagon.

Can I send it to you so I can get that Cali money for it?

since you now live in a secluded area and you stored the wagon in your dads barn, you now have what is known as the " barn find " factor % mark up.
That's what people are looking for today. Probably more then what Cali cars can bring. lol

Got it off the dollies and out of the garage. Gave it a pretty thorough wash included the wheel wells, all the drains, and door jambs. Got lots of dirt out of it.

After I was done I jumped it and drove it over to my dad's shop. I'll get started tomorrow.

I think I might have referenced this last year in the Prison Planet thread. I had a hot/cold hose bib installed right next to the garage. I'm sooo glad I did. If you ever have the opportunity, I highly recommend it.

Yep, you just washed the “barn find” off of it.

I’d be happy if I just had a cold spigot at the driveway. I have to use 2 hoses to wash any of my cars.

How close is the nearest hot and cold water? I bet you could have it done in a Sunday afternoon.
