Stupid indeed. I machined a couple lead core doors for a medical building and they were ridiculous as well.
I also personally handled just about every door in that medical building at the base of the OHSU tram. I don't miss working with doors.

I was out of town for 3 days to go to the swap meet but not much changed while I was gone. The septic passed inspection so it can be buried now. The garage doors and openers got installed as well.

I like the hinge and handle look on the garage doors. I thought about redoing mine with that but they don't really match the style of the house I'm in. The door place probably didn't want to do the square corner hinges, they take longer to cut out as you have to do the corners with a chisel, versus just going along with a jig and a router. And I agree, I don't like doors 2 inches off the floor. Since I'm remodeling my house myself, what I do is get a semi thin book from my sons bedroom, set the door on it in the jamb, mark where the hinges will be, and cut them out on the door myself. I'm using the existing hinge placements on the jamb itself. I like the chain downspouts, but they wouldn't fit the style of my house either. We do have one of those copper rain chains by the kitchen window, but just for decoration and the sound of raindrops.

It's just lazy drama queen stuff. I machined and hung doors for years so I know how little extra time it really takes. The equipment is fully capable of doing a clean job and the only extra physical work is 12 swats with a corner chisel and flicking the waste away -- literally 20 extra seconds on the machine. I think it's more that they were on notice that I had actual expectations and instead of trying to impress, they opted to just stick with the same production stuff they normally do and pass on this job.

So the prevalence of laziness. Sounds about right for companies these days. Want big money for minimal work.

Back in town for a couple days. Not much was done while I was gone. Drywall crew continued with mud work.

Small amount of progress the last few days. The drywall guys have all the texture up. The finish is called Sun Valley and it seems to be pretty popular around here.

The finish guys will trim it out next week.

I spent my afternoon mowing the lawn. I just mowed it about 10 days ago and there were spots close to a foot tall already.

Image
Spring hits pretty fast and hard here. The upside is all the color. I've got flowers popping up in places I wouldn't have expected them.

My apple, asian pear, and service berry trees are going off loud too.

Finish carpenters got started a couple days early.

This was day 1 and they were estimating 5 days of work. Lots of closets. Lots of trim. Wife threw in some crown and wainscoting at the last minute too.

Worked some more on the BroHauler today. Got the rear brakes working. I was able to adapt the Suzuki Swift wheel cylinders pretty easily. That made an easy $8 solution for some otherwise unavailable parts. While I had it in the air I did a badly needed oil and filter change. The last thing I did was cut off those old broken fog lights and brackets that were being used for headlights. Also cut out one broken and one bent rack support bar and replaced them.

Once I got it back on the ground and ran it a bit I attempted to adjust the centrifugal clutch. Success!

Tally so far:
-front brake shoes
-front brake cables
-front wheel bearings
-front king pin set
-rear brake shoes
-rear wheel cylinders
-rear master cylinder
-new carb
-oil and filter change
-adjust centrifugal clutch
-clean air filter
-grease all suspension
-new battery
-new tail light lense
-remove fog lights, brackets, wiring
-repair bent/broken rack supports
-straighten bent front rack

Well, not a ton happened last week. The trim carpenters finished up. There was a lot going on in my wife's library.

The drywall crew still isn't done. The bottom of the stairs isn't textured yet and I started nit-picking the arches. Marked about a dozen spots this morning for redo.

Image
I know none of it shows up in the photos but there are waves on the edges instead of being a smooth arch.

The paint crew showed up this morning to start prepping the trim. No idea when they'll start with actual paint.
Gutter crew is scheduled for Wednesday. Trying to get the stone guy to commit. Cabinets are in the warehouse waiting to be installed with the granite right after. I have a giant stack of lightning and fans ready to go.

The original deadline was mid-May -- obviously not happening. June 1st is not feasible now. We're planning for mid-June now but I won't be shocked if it goes into July.

Kinda cool seeing it come together. Must be kinda nice to leave for work for a few days and come back to see something done. Maybe it's not as fast as you want, but it will happen.

It'll get done eventually. Just tired of dealing with flakey subs. Pretty unprofessional.

My contractor finished his place yesterday so I went by to take a look. Familiar but different.

Moving into his house won't get mine done any sooner.

4 hours behind the mower today. When I mow, I think. Playing with the idea of fencing off 2 sections for sheep. They keep the grass down and are lower maintenance than goats. Less destructive too. Ideally I think I'd like to find someone to rent the space. 4H kids maybe? I'd probably let them do it for free. Less work for me and free fertilizer.

This area was mostly a gravel parking lot 2 years ago but I've been letting the grass take it back.
Image
It's the section at the bottom of the hill between the front yard and the highway. Probably could make about 2/3 acre pasture. The future shop site and above where the little blue house currently resides could be another 2 acre pasture.
If I decide to move forward with this plan it'd be next spring. That gives me close to a year to clear trees and brush, then do some fencing.

It is pretty open. We're going to need more furniture.
