Stories from The Bakken oil patch

#1

Post by jayden71 » Wed Aug 28, 2013 12:34 pm

So, due to the economical climate and the current fiscal situation of my household, I am headed back to the oil patch known as the Bakken formation in NW North Dakota and Eastern Montana. Oh yeah and Canadia too. :D .

Being on a regular schedule and seeing my family every single day has been a true blessing! However, It has proven very challenging to support a family of 4 on the wages I am currently pullin down. Wife and I have discussed it for the past 2 months and we feel this is our best option for now. My cousin is a truck boss for a small company of about 9 water trucks and 3 sand trucks. That's how I got a job up there in the first place. They are very excited to see me come back and my current boss is very disappointed to see me leave :( . He understands though, gotta do whatchya gotta do.

So basically I will be gone for 3 weeks and then be able to come home for 10 days. Or I can stay longer or shorter and adjust my time off. The owners are awesome when it comes to family time! It is a 965 mile trip each way. I've been workin in the Honda, getin her ready for the journey. I usually make it in 15.5 hours but have done it in 14hrs and 15minutes!

I will be driving a water truck again to start with, actually get my old truck back! . We haul fresh water to the drill rigs or brine (salt) water, whichever they need at the time. We also go to producing wells and haul off the salt water that comes up out of the earth. We can work up to 100 hrs a week for $30 an hour!!
Since I have been gone, the work has become more consistent with much less down time. That's the main reason I left in April. If I'm gonna drive that far to work, I wanna fuckin work!!

Shit gets crazy up there sometimes. People from every walk of life are up there tryin to make a living. Winter time is even more fun, -55 degree weather and shit  .
So i'd just like to keep in touch with my Datsun buds while I'm out helpin to get oil to power all our Datsuns!! :D :D

Oilfield food!!

6 below 0 with a windchill of -25! Truck is nice and warm at 180 when I get there, takes 30mns to suck on a load of water with engine running at 1000rpm for the pump. Got back in and it was down to 100 degrees!
Image

Yeah, it gets a little muddy...no that is not sewage... good old oil on the ground..they had a mishap.

That's it for now. I am sure I will have more stories and pics and Fails of the day to share.

There is always a market for CDL drivers!! Especially in the oil patch! Guys go up there and get burned out, can't handle it, whatever. Hell I did, but now I miss it.

I just happened to have been a CDL instructor in my time too!
:fyea:

It takes a 6-8 week course to get your class A, and like I said good drivers are always in demand!

Instructor eh? I know I could pass the tests (after I went thru the school ). The depth perception may be a little difficult, but I think practice would be the key... I'm down for new career with a better paying job. Everyone in my family has been a driver of some sorts.

That's kinda badass. I know family time is important but it's hard to turn down that opportunity. Hope it all works out. I guess Jamee will have to pick up the bewb thread slack.

That's great news man! I hope it works out like you want it to. I wish I had an opportunity like that down here. Damn you right to work state. Family time means alot but being able to feed them is very important. Can't wait to hear more about Bakken.
