Re: The rusty panda
The epicness is soo worth it haha the green paint costs twice as much as the steel grey I priced out a few months ago. I figure if I'm gonna work this hard I've gotta love the end result so green was the only way to go

Re: The rusty panda
So I sanded down the runs and the roof and respreayed... I used a different mix ratio this time and guess what? Gonna be sanding agin... It'll be worth it in the end. On a positive note I tinted my rear window for the truck and it turned out nice
Nice tinted window

Re: The rusty panda
Bummer man.
I saw on this show once where the guy had a DA air sander. He used a super high grit and kept a high flow of water going and moved that thing around quick. the run finally went away. looked ok when done. He did do a buff afterwards. Could never tell.

Re: The rusty panda
I'll try sanding then buffing this time. I tried it last time but the problem was I ended up hitting primer. I'll probably end up spraying it tho. Not a big deal, just means I'm setback a couple days

Re: The rusty panda
Sanded it down and sprayed it again... And yet again it didn't go on properly. I think the problem is my surface cleaner... I'm gonna give it another go tomorrow with a different one. I'm getting a little worn out after 10 hour days at work and 2 or 3 on the truck at night. Hopefully it goes better tomorrow so I can swap cabs over my 4 day week end

after you use the cleaner aren't you supposed to wash it off with water? or did you do that or what?

Re: The rusty panda
I didn't wash it off with water... But I didn't do that the first time either and it layed down fine the first time. The reason I respreayed it I the first place was a couple runs and too many coats on the roof. I'll give it another go after work tomorrow and hopefully it'll be the last

Um, make sure you are within the time frame of recoating. You may have gotten to a point where you simply have to wait like 2 weeks or something.

Re: The rusty panda
Eh I was stomping my feet and calling it a piece of crap haha. There's nothing like helplessly looking on while fish eyes appear all over your fresh coat of paint and knowing there's nothing you can do...
I'm stubborn as hell tho lol so I won't let it defeat me. My goal is to have the cab on there this week end

Re: The rusty panda
Soo... I'm at a complete loss right now. I sanded and respreayed yet again and changed every factor I can think of and still it's getting fish eyes everywhere. I'm waiting for the paint guy to call me back so I can try to figure this out. I might go ahead and start my cab swap tomorrow and worry about fixing the paint later. That paint is 140 a quart so this is an expensive learning experience...

Re: The rusty panda
Sweet jesus man. That is expensive. Any sort of shit on there will cause a fish eye... Any kind of contaminants. Bug and tar remover still on there, soap, anything.... Something left from clean up process would be my guess.
Maybe after sanding, don't use any type of cleaner... just wheel it outside and blast it REALLY good with your air compressor... wheel it in, hit it with paint, let it get tacky per directions and hit it again (or whatever the directions say for re-spray)

Re: The rusty panda
I've been wet sanding with soapy water... I'll bet there's still soap residue on there even after cleaning. Damn damn damn.
Well I might as well swap cabs and fix it after since I can reach it just as easy with the cab on the new frame

Re: The rusty panda
Yeah, when i watched that chip foose shit overhaulin, i seen them hit it with bug n tar remover, then wash it off, then sand, then hit it with a compressor, then shoot paint.Converted_to_datsun wrote:I've been wet sanding with soapy water... could be dust, too.
Hit up youtube and see the process real quick. (adam's right, s why i was saying wheel it outside and blow it off. should blow out your shop too. an industrial sized fan in the door way when you sand inside would help blow the shit outside... when you spray inside, even if you can't see it, it will suck up the dust and get it on your canvas )

Re: The rusty panda
Talked to the paint guy and it turns out I don't even want soapy water for wet sanding in this case and it's best to sand in the mornin and let it sit for a few hours before spraying. Something about chemical reactions. Been an expensive lesson but hopefully my next attempt will turn out better
