They're kinda crude but tough and reliable. Get good gas mileage too. I'd waaay rather have a 2.5 than a 2.8 V6.

Took it through DEQ on Wednesday afternoon and passed with plenty of room to spare. Today i pulled the grille and bumpers. Cleaned, sanded and painted the bumpers semi-gloss black then taped off the grille to paint the bowtie red. Then moved the truck to the paint shop so it can wait for my brother to do some buffer magic. Now, we wait.

My brother came over and spent a couple hours last night trying to make it look less like a chalkboard. Sooo much better. Unfortunately the hood and tailgate have thin paint letting the black sealer coat show through. Looks more dramatic with my camera flash than in real life. It's a real shame because it's such a straight little truck. The sides look great! Probably another hour or two of work to do then I can put the grille and bumpers back on.

I am surprised really. Paint was horrible back then. usually it peeled off.

It's got a couple spots where it lifted. You can see the gray on the tailgate and the groove in the hood photo. There's also a spot on the top of the driver's fender about the size of a silver dollar. All in all better than most out there. It's just so straight. Wish the paint was as nice as the body. Oh well. Not too bad considering I'm just over $300 into it at this point. Once I get done at the DMV and square up with my brother it'll be a bit more. Still plenty of room for profit though.

Pretty much all done now. After he got the polish done I started driving it back and forth to work. Just waiting for the title to come in the mail then I'll place the sale ad. Sure is an improvement over how I brought it home.

Dukes are tough to kill. Some dumb bitch brought a Celebrity (when's the last time you even saw one?) in for an oil change yesterday. I went to pull it around to the back of the shop and noticed the temp gauge was pegged out past 260*. Thinking that couldn't be possible, I used my infrared temp gun and verified 265* at the head. I asked her how long it had been running hot and she said she'd been driving it around for over a week that way. It was 2 gallons low on coolant. I topped it off and did a quick CO2 test to see how bad she'd blown the head gasket. It passed! I changed the oil and drove it a couple miles. That thing ran great and never went past 180*. I can't believe it lived.

In other news; My parents sold their house on the Willamette river and moved to Idaho last week. I guess they couldn't give up the waterfront lifestyle so they bought a place right on the Snake river . Sweet house and shop in a beautiful setting. Anyway, since my dad has so many toys it's going to require several trips to get them there. The red '68 El Camino went over on a trailer behind the U-haul. He's hitching a ride back to town today for the Fierro. The Bricklin is on consignment with an exotic/specialty dealer where they've been prepping it for over a month so hopefully it'll be sold soon. I've been doing work on his Harley, white '64 El Camino, and an enclosed cargo trailer he recently bought. The Harley will go in the trailer and be towed by the '64 in a couple weeks. Their new house has a 3 car garage attached to the house and a nice 30'x48' shop so he's finally got room for all his stuff. Big improvement over the 2 car garage they had at the marina.

I agree, it's a nice area. Close to the mountains, river a stone throws away, fishing, boating, camping, biking etc etc, just a lot of ing"ish" .

Got friends that live down in the Boise area and their looking forward of moving away from their. They have been down their for several years and have seen it getting more people coming in. AKA progress.

anyways, GLWS on both vehicles, they look marvelous.
