Re: Waynos 1966 datsun 520 ute
Well, I talked to the artist(painter), I believe that this truck will go in for final bodywork and paint within a month I hope, I am now trying to decide on a color, I was thinking of "white 502" which I think is this color below,
I have also been thinking about the light blue that the 521 came in like Skyblue's on ratsun,
there is also the light green like mrbigtanker's truck on Ratsun,
there is tan,
or a light yellow,
something that will hide imperfections, what do you guys think?

Re: Waynos 1966 datsun 520 ute
I have to use a light color, it is not good enough for a red, or any other darker color, you cannot weld this much on sheet metal and have it come out smooth, and I am not willing to put the time/money into it to make it that smooth, so it likely is going to be white, I am just wondering what white it should be, bone white, or refrigerator white like the back half is now.
Can anyone on here photo shop the photo below light blue, light yellow, and light green to see how it might look?

Yea I was looking at that color, it's a little more yellow than bone white.
I drove the truck to RedBanners yesterday with the new tension rod mount locations, it drove great going down the freeway at 70mph, nothing felt any different than before, so I have them positioned correctly I think, but since I have done so many changes to this suspension, what is normal now?

Re: Waynos 1966 datsun 520 ute
This is what I did today, I originally planned on doing it the way Jrock did it, putting a tube in the frame, but the 720 frame is offset, so I used the roadster setup to flip the rear leaf mount position.
The photo below is with the rear tires still off the ground.
It was to dark to take a photo of the stance, so I will do that tomorrow, I think I dropped the back at the bumper about 3 to 4 inches.

Here is what it looks like with the wheels back on the ground.
This is the stance while it's dark out.

Re: Waynos 1966 datsun 520 ute
OK, I just did some measuring.
The leaf originally connected to the shackle 5 inches below the frame, now it is connected 1 1/2 inches below the frame, a 3 1/2 inch drop at the rear bumper, likely closer to a 3 inch drop at the top of the fender well.
I would be resting on the frame right now if I had not notched it.

Man, you're gonna need a full length skid plate just to get in and out of the driveway.

No, I don't drag in my driveway, I used to, I actually hardly drag or hit anything except speed bumps like the small type they have in apartment complexes, them are an issue, but the big ones on the city streets are not an issue at all.
I will admit that if I hit the driveway to fast, where the tension rods used to connect in the front does hit, I still have to cut them mounts off, but I always leave stuff like that alone for a while after making a big change like that, in case I have to change back because of some issue I did not see coming.
There is one more thing I could do in the back to get down another 2 inches, but I will have to mod the lower shock mount, not sure it's worth it yet, need to take the truck out of the driveway into the street to look at the stance, it's hard to tell how it is sitting in my tilted driveway, I will get some photos.
I am a glutton for punishment, last night I started thinking about how hard it would be to do a 2 inch body drop on this truck, someone stop me.

Well, here it is now, it's still raked a little, but I will live with it for a while, if I want it lower, I will throw some sand bags in it.

Re: Waynos 1966 datsun 520 ute
So, a couple months ago you were talking paint. What's the plan for that?
