Hello, can anyone point me to the DQ color code chart or article? I've seen other charts but the info I need is not on there.

I don't know which article

But if it's not on here, I'd be surprised.

Well, here is the debacle..

This is the car:

And here is the color code:

No, the car has never been re-sprayed with the exception of a bit of bodywork I found on the rear tailight panel.

817, Dark Yellow... Wax a portion to see the real color.

TCP says its a 1970 color, not 69.

Yep! That's it!

I called a local paint shop and they couldn't find a 817 for a 69. Make since it is a 70 color I guess. Thanks Laecaon!

Dude,
That's not a "debacle, that's a alpha omega 68-69. Be aware, there may be differences in that year's color coding vs. 70-73. Just make sure you have proper year for the code you're looking for.

Try this: 8th row down 3rd from the left. This looks like the paint you have. Note that 817 is called Cream Sand not "Dark Yellow".

I said debacle because there are other paint codes listed for 817. Some are dark brown and shit.

I'm going to take the gas door down to the paint shop to verify it anyway.. but I need to have a starting point for paint color. Both of those look close.

My Datsuns, like good friends, have never let me down. At least in any way that was not understandable and thus fixable.

The car is a 69, you can tell by the round quarter marker light and other things.

Draker, I would say with the RatDat site, notice the other cars the 510 is grouped with, late 70s early 80s. As in the late model 510, not the early.

I here what you're say'n Draker. I tell you bro, there must be some kind of 817 color code conspiracy. Good call on bringing the gas door for reference though. Funny thing is I had a 70 four door back in the day that may have been the same color. Bit obscured by the camo, but you get the idea. Don't laugh though, I know it was the 80s

If you find the actual color listed on the chart I gave is correct for your car, you can have the paint shop mix up a sample for about $12.00. That way you can test it for sure.

Best of luck,

Ron M.

I am going to have them put it in an rattle can.. but yeah gas door will tell for sure. I'm sure though even though it's going to be matched by color code.. it won't match the old ass paint on the car. I'll be happy with "close" at this point.

As far as the year of the car.. I'll have to take a look at the manufacture date but from papers found in the car.. it's earlier than April/69.

Pretty sure thats a 69 due to the round rear side marker and the tail lights. I believe the the 68 did not have the little chrome garnish.

under the paint code sticker, wasn't the paint code stamped into the radiator support. Seems like I read that some where.

Yes they were stamped, unless the core support has been changed

Looks like the same color as my 69 wagon. Unfortunately my color code was gone off the sticker and I did not want to peel the smog sticker off to look for the stamp in the radiator support. I went to industrial paint in Portland with my cowl cover and they scanned it, came up with Rolls Royce Ivory as closest match. The did more digging and found an old Datsun paint chart and found the 817, Californian Yellow and mixed up a small bottle of touch up for $10. Great store!

Not all 510s had stamped color codes. Mine is not stamped. And unless there was a hotshot at changing core supports, mine was original.

And Erik, we will have to meet once my wagon is back on the road. I live in Hillsboro after all.

Wow, nice wagon! Color looks the same. I'm not sure what determines when the core support were stamped or not. Some are.. some aren't.
