Jacob's goon build
21 September 2010 - 12:52 AM
So thought it might be time to start a build thread. The car is gonna be painted tomorrow(21st)!!
Anyways, it is a 71 GOON. L16 3speed auto How I got it:
Massive dent in the right rear quarter:
Starter body work on the car last December ('09):
Finally primered it:
And that is how it sat for 8 months (well there was a tarp over it). I had school
And now for today:
a few other goodies:
More oics tomorrow night.

I dont know the color code right now other than what is on this picture:
Its a Subaru Color. All I did was go to the paint shop and pick the brightest white I could.
Edit: Actually the paint code is 51E

Pictures!!!
This shows my new side mirror. I have it just to be legal. It is plastic and really sucks.
The car is now legal to drive, and drive it does. It has no problems getting around.
The heater needs to be figured out. When I turn it on, it is warm for 2 seconds then feels like the ambient air.
Im am gonna be ordering some parts now, not sure what though. I got a week and a half to I am back at the car (away at school).

Decided it was time to post more stuff. Got a few goodies, camera deleted a bunch of pictures <_< , anyways here is a little update.
Clutch fork boot
Shifter bushing done, Thanks Mike for the tip!
New wheels! Im gonna make them look much better, but just got back with them.
Like I said pictures have been deleted.
I currently have a dogleg tranny, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, clutch MC, Pedals ready to be dropped in, ZX struts that I need new rotors and calipers for, and then to switch the springs over from the 510 struts. Not sure when either the tranny swap or strut swap is taking place, but Im gonna push for before Canby.

Working on the wheels right now. Here is one with the paint removed. I then hit it with 0 steel wool just to see how it would turn out. I still have some repairs to do on it(them). This is so far the first and only wheel with removed paint.

1 how I got the wheels, one with paint removed, 1 polished, 1 painted how I want it for now.

I came home to some goodies! first up a clock for the instrument cluster since I have no tach.
Got some window channel felt! No more rattling windows
And finally, I got some clear turn signals. I rather dislike the color orange on a car unless its the paint. This includes the taillights on cars that have orange turn signals.

I think I will eventually smoke the clear lenses, also I am going to get the sidemarkers in clear as well.
And picture of the clock installed. Yes the time is wrong. No it isnt wired in yet. I couldn't see any obvious wires in the vicinity.

Painted the Core Support today! and the wheel wells while I was at it. Satin black if you are wondering, Rustoleum Acrylic Enamel.
Couldn't tell what I was taking pictures of, the backlight on the camera screen stopped working.
07 February 2011 - 11:08 PM
More pictards!
New look of front end. Note: trim around headlights is not in.
New 3/4 shot. It is horrible as I was cramped where I took the picture.(The cat is trained to stay off my car
My wheels! Could use a polish...

Bruce said he really likes you car. Does it drive any better with both front wheels pointed in the same direction?

Did you do all the paint yourself?
And yes I did it myself. EVERYTHING on this car is done by myself, with the exception of boring my motor, and the alignment I just had.
Awesome! The car definitely drives better than my not so good home alignment (trying to match tie rod lengths...) and definitely now feels tighter. I was scared about touching the steering box, as I wasnt sure if it would respond well to being tightened. But it seems all is well.DRIVEN wrote:Bruce said he really likes you car. He did have to call me to figure out how to start my car though

He asked me first and I had no clue either. Just admit it, you didn't tell him how to start it when you dropped it off because you think it's funny when people can't figure your car out. Smart-ass kids these days  .
