I pulled the old brake MC apart to clean it out and see if it was salvageable.. Got it cleaned up.. and it's confirmed to be crap. Ordered new MC today along with new rear wheel cylinders, pads, and a thermostat to boot. I hope they get here by the weekend!!

Also, I let the paint dry for 24 hours before I tried to wet sand it.. After 24 hours the paint wasn't cured enough to sand.. Damn you cold weather!!! I need to repaint the engine bay area again... Thought that paint was try and it got hit with a little brake clean overspray... oops. Ah well..

Can anyone tell me if the brake shoe adjusters should be able to back out all the way? Meaning.. if you keep going counter clockwise, will it stop turning at some point or should the screw keep coming out?

The reason I ask is because I'm having trouble getting the drum back on. I backed the adjust out as far as it will go and it stopped turning. The adjuster is all jacked up and I'm not sure if it's seized or just 'bottoming out'

You mean you collapsed them? You need to collapse them to allow the drum over...

Yeah, I'm not familiar with these adjusters. I see there is cam that rotates on the inside. I collapsed it.. I wasn't sure if there was more adjustment that what I'm getting. I figured the adjuster on the back would move a bit more.

I got the drum back on... it's tight. Very tight. It will likely drag a bit.. I have a feeling it will be coming off again in the near future.

I moved past that on to the BMC. I installed it yesterday and filled it with fluid... immediately it starts to leak near the lines. I pull it back off.. and quit for the night.

Start again today. Keep in mind this is a rebuilt BMC.

I find the nipples on the that connect to the flared brake lines are hammered. It appears in a previous life someone strong armed it and marred them. I could have sent it back.. But the next one could be the same way. The next one I buy will likely be new. Anyway this is what I did to fix it.

Take off the nut:

Find old BMC in pile of parts. (This one from a 210). Take off the nut.

Swap these over to the rebuilt BMC. Left is the one that came with the rebuilt BMC, right is the old one from the 210 BMC. Front and rear replaced. They were both hammered.

Reinstall.

Now I need to get more brake fluid so I can bleed the system.

Some of you may be asking.. why didn't I take the part from the BMC I replaced... the 69 had a BMC with some HUGE nut on the bottom. I couldn't get them off without a vise.

Got a new BMC and installed. Bleed it a few times.. still air in there somewhere.. and also the driver rear drum is fucked.. I'll have to look at it again. But there is some brake pressure.. so that's a start!! Sorry no pics.

After replacing both of the rear wheel cylinders.. I've been having issues with the drivers side rear drum fitting. I got it on but the wheel was locked tight. Something wasn't right. I pulled both of the rear drums and got out the calipers measuring everything. Both cylinders measured the same.. the adjusters measured the same. I didn't measure the pad wear however.

I ended up just putting the old wheel cylinder back on and everything fit just fine. There was nothing wrong with it.. it was just old. The new wheel cylinder was 1.5mm bigger than the old one. I tried to see if I could adjust the cylinder.. but I didn't see a way. It bugs the shit out of me though.. I think the days are numbered on these rear drums anyway.

One of the bleeder valves on the front calipers was seized.. I had to bust out the torch and heat it up. After mutilating it... I got it out. I tried tossing in a bleeder from a spare Z32 caliper.. but no dice. It doesn't seal the same and is leaking. Ran out of time tonight.. but I'll just pull one off the 2 door for now.

Once the brakes are fully functional.. engine is going back in. I can't wait!

Another text only update. Sorry guys.

Brakes are working, but not great. There is some brake pressure, but not a ton. I see more bleeding in my future.

I got the engine sitting back in the engine bay. New OEM heater hoses are in. Next was to get the clutch squared away. I need to replace the pilot bushing. Not because it needs done, but because it's a good time to do it. I'll have to order it since I forgot earlier.

I finally tore into the logtail dogleg I bought from Izzo. Good news is the front case swaps over just fine. I'll pop open the rear and look for carnage. gears in the front looked perfect.

More to come.. but it looks like things are finally going back together. Very happy about that!

Bought this from Izzo for $50. Longtail dogleg. It was broken. (Stuck in gear?)

Bought this missing the front case. Short tail dogleg. Appears to be in good shape.

Installed it here. Now short doglog, $100. Good deal.

So for those that want to know.. Yes the front case does swap from the (rare) longtail dogleg to the short. No one could definitively answer if it would work. I am confirming, it works.

I've ordered the front and rear seals for the transmission as well as a new pilot bushing. Once I get those... this mofo is going in. :D

Very little. I managed to get the old pilot bushing out. Ready to install the new one.

I've got a bunch of family over this weekend so garage time was/is severely impacted.
