I was told the L20b and the Z22 crank and rods were the same, that is what I was told.

ha. you seen that before i removed it cuz i thought it was a dumb question.

if they are the same thats good, i'm still not sure how the rods and the crank are on the z22. hope tomorrow i can get it in the garage to take it apart.
I have some l20b pistons if in fact the rods are the same and the z22 rods are to beat up..

I just want to catch up on a few missing points.

L18 and W53 meant for the 210 got dropped off at my place today.
Kevin picked up the Z22 and the rest of my L to LZ parts too. (Cover, U67, etc.)

My kitchen only looks messy in that picuter Kevin posted because we were doing the teardown of the Z22 last night.
Nuts everywhere. Bolts, parts, and tools all over the place as well.

Kevin's pretty white valve cover got a big black hand print from me after we swapped all the parts.

And he also fixed his exhaust with the last L downpipe I had sitting around.
This pipe actually came off an L20B as well. But Kevin didn't want to mention that either.

The Z will get torn down. Just need to get it off the milk crate we have it resting on.
I want to see the crank as well.

Z22 block, Z22 rods, KA-E pistons with a U67 will bring this to right around the 9.8 to 1 level.
Shit's about to get crazy.

Tomorrow will be my day with the kids. Probably not a good day to pick up the motor.

I think you caught it in time before it could do too much damage.
We'll see.

The top of the pistons looked really good. Motor spun freely.
Cylinder #3 had some weird marks towards the deck. Not sure from what though.

Was the noise you had from the very bottom? Or could you really not tell?

honestly it sounded like a rod but maybe piston slap? i ran it around a little after it got towed back up here when i was pullin the 4.3 outta the red 720, and it didnt really get much worse, howd the oil look when you guys drained it? the oil had about 2000 miles on it since i last changed it when the motor went to shit, but i do know that the motor seized up and i got it broke free, and thats when the knocking and smoking started so maybe i wiped out the rings on #3

Oh really?
Hmmmmmmm....

I don't think rings because only the very top of the cylinder had the marks.

Oil is black. I have not drained it. I thought it was empty.
Very glad I have not tipped it yet.

Just like Kevin was supposed to reinstall my seat after I took it out to haul his KA home from Portland.

Still sitting in my driveway.

It's either the kitchen or a gravel driveway while freezing/freezing rain.
