I believe that is Severyn's beige U320, this is his blue one.

The RHD looks normal to me down here in Australia!
Great buy Wayno, can't wait to see it get built up to your normal standards.
Very cool looking find.

Welcome to NWD Shane, my normal standards are kinda half finished lately, this is one that just happened to work out, it was not a planned purchase till the last 4 months, that is when I totally committed to buying it, I was always interested, but communication was sketchy for a long time, you know, send an email, wait a week, send another email, wait a month, never did get a decent recent photo of it from him, they were all cell phone photos, and it was a sucky cell phone.
Here are a few early photos I was sent, you can not really get details with these kind of photos.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
That has to be the weirdest looking Datsun ever, but by that standard makes it that much cooler!

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
I noticed the hinge area on the tailgate flexing today, so I took a closer look, it's not good.
It's a bit rusty. Left side
Right side
Right side again.
Left side
I am not sure how I am going to fix this yet, as it is so rusty in that area, but I will figure something out.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
All these holes except one had the small screws break off while trying to remove them, so I drilled them out to just under the size of the screw, then tapped out what was left that would not come out with a small punch.
I also had them break off on the lower bezel piece.
I didn't think about taking photos of the broken screws.
I think I am going to need some kind of sand blaster box for small parts.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
I talked to Severyn a day or two ago, and these are both his vehicles, he lives in Belgium as I recall.
It's funny how I met him(computer), I bid on and won a grill on Ebay, well it turned out, he was the one I was bidding against, and somehow he found out who I was and sent me an offer on the grill(double what I paid I as I recall), it actually baffled me how he was able to do that, as I thought we were all anonymous when bidding on ebay.
We have been exchanging emails ever since, even though I kept the grill.

I am tired, but cannot sleep, I cannot recall ever getting up and starting the computer back up in my entire life.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
one way of finding out who won a bid is to wait for the winning bidder or seller to leave feedback. This is what I've done in the past.
as for the rusted out sections on the tail gate, you're going to have to reconstruct that area. Do you got a friend with a metal break ?

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
I have no metal break, and know no one either, but I can make the section I need to a point.
It is bent in that area also, so I need to address that first, the bend is typical of all tailgates of this age, sagging and/or dented from throwing stuff in the box.
It has a lot of small curves and such, so I have no way of even copying it, I believe my biggest issue will be when mounting it, and having the tailgate sit the way it's supposed to.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
So I didn't get but 3 hours sleep last night, so I hope these posts are coherent.
I decided to make an attempt at fixing the tailgate hinge areas, I decided to put one piece the whole length, but first I had to force the warped gate bottom into position.
I think I succeeded in getting it aligned.
I used a lot of clamps

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
So I made my piece for it, got all the holes where they needed to be, yea.
Test fitting.
The hole for the license plate light wires.
And the welding began.
I believe it will work, but I have not test fit it to the truck after the welding, it got dark and very wet.
