Re: 1969 Datsun 510 Goon
So Saturday, which was to be Sunny and dry turn out not to be.
I spent most of the day trying to find stuff in a way to small garage.
Well we picked up the Z22 block and it is there sitting on the engine stand waiting for parts.
To get both engines of engine stands and with walking room around them both.
Took a while.
So I decided to work on one strut before I came home.
Grinder is missing.
Gas tanks for welding is empty.
Damm!
After running to the store to buy my buddy a new grinder.
This is all I got done!
Tomorrow I will be cleaning engines to do the painting right.
Well I am outty.
Still sleepy.

Re: 1969 Datsun 510 Goon
So I spent the day, painting parts.
First I cleaned the parts with super clean.
Rinsed clean with water.
Rinsed them with Denatured alcohol.
Then spray an etching primer on them.
Then 3 coats of color, with no more than 20 mins gap between each layer.
Lastly, I spray 2 coats of clear coat over the parts.
Then I started placing parts on the block and making sure I had the right bolts in the right place and make sure those extra ones were really extra ones.
Some L18, L20 and Z22 bolts are in a bin.
So, I need to get that sorted out.
I put the U67 head on the Z22 block.
And mounted the timing cover.
Put the new water pump on it.
Found all of the bolts, which I cleaned up on a wire wheel.
I am going with a electric fan, for the Z22 block.
A clutch less water pump is going on here.
I am thinking about dropping the oil pan on the L18.
Reason is I want to look inside.
The gasket is mangled in the front, it looks like crap.
I think I will use to opportunity to look into the block .

Shiny!
When the only tool you have is a hammer every problem starts to look like a hippy.

Very nice man. Did you clean the paint off the block surface before putting that head on?

I was gonna say you did a poor job painting the top of the block; missed the pistons, altogether!

So today. the boy wanted to help out a little.
So I taught him how to clean the deck and set the gasket for the water pump.

Re: 1969 Datsun 510 Goon ( Kawasaki Green)
So a little farther down the road today.
Engine brackets and a couple other thing needed touch up.
Then I changed my mind about the trans plate.
Ordered a new stronger one.
But this will do for now!
This is the start to the over spray clean up!
This is how it will look all the way around.

Getting so close!
Looking so I can see what holes I have to drill in the block and the head.

elvan.
I saw the comments about the head work. and while I agree with them really, one thing I have learned is just cuz you do something different, doesn't make it wrong. Who knows, this may work out right, it may not.
Good on you for stepping up and doing shit on your own and learning man. I hope this works out for you. BTW, If you do end up touching a valve, I have a box of them you are welcome to raid.
