The plan is build the LZ in the super clean garage.. Once I get all the parts need to do so, and before I drop the LZ in you teach me how to do some brakes lines annnnd help with disk brake swap.. After parts are GOT. Yes.
Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Yeah I can do that!

Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
lots of sanding and scraping done..
once this drys.. more sanding..
I wire wheeled all seemed areas down to bare metal then hit it with the seam sealer...
Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Sooo...
no phone call today... and the shop is closed... so..
tomorrow....
Fucken hope!
I picked up a Z24 head gasket today..
gloves, wd40 tho i wont be using mush of it..
Bondo for my roof.. I'll be ordering some Z22 bearings right about now... along with an L20b gasket set..
those have the valve retainer thingys in it i believe so I'll have to wait for the gasket kit to put my U67 back together.. oh and wait for that gasket to drill the block as well..
I have lots of oil.. picked up a little zinc for the brake in..
oh is there different grit of laping compound? or what grit do I need to use. or should I worry about it?
I was able to clean up my exhaust valves pretty nicely, one still has a ton of buildup on it but I'll keep working on it. soak them over night maybe.
stay tuned..
lots to come..
maybe he wanted to get the pistons on the rods before calling me or something...

Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
The bondo is for some deep dents in both rear corners.. I happen to uncover with wire wheel..
And other little dents, I'd like to paint the roof.. But I would also not painting the roof nor using bondo, just clear coat the metal!

Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Some yeah I could do that to, some others are pretty hard to get to from the inside.
Doesn't extreme cold help pop small dents out?
How would one do that..

Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Heat the dent extremely hot with a heat gun. Blast it with canned air right after.
BOOM!!!
BOOM!!!
Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Sweet! I'll try it and let you guys know what happens. After it burns through bondo that's already there.

There's more than one way - it depends on the dent.uberkevin wrote:Doesn't extreme cold help pop small dents out?

When steel is hit, the surface will stretch and "hold" the shape. Especially when hit by a hammer! To get things back to the original shape, with the least amount of body filler, you will want to shrink the steel. That's where quick "extreme" temperature changes comes into play.
A slow heating followed by a quick cooling will shrink it.
(I'm taking about sheet steel here)
To apply the heat, some folks use the sun or a hair dyer. For cooling some folks use water, compressed air, or dried ice. This is how "paintless" dent removal places work, and on small simple dents it can work well.
I like using a shrinking disc -> http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-shrink ... structions The friction is applied in a focused and very controlled way. If you have a complex dent or crease to repair, you're going to need more heat than a hair dryer, but open flame is tricky to control and there's risk of the panel "going wild" on you. The shrinking disc is great, and you can do it over and over with little risk of messing things up. Cooling with dried ice is awesome, but the real key is getting the heat in the right place.
Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
How big small of dents are you getting out with that disk?
Good info to thank you.
The dents I'm working on are small but deep, and some are right In a place where I can't get a dowl/doly whatever in the right spot.. I managed to get the biggest dent pretty small and most others back to normal shape. This is my first time I've done anything like this...
I did go buy hammer a doly kit from HF. I think I did pretty good the dents in the back above the window I can't really see any more. The bad ones were just above the driver door and in that back corner was the biggest one, being maybe 3 inch's wide and Idk pretty deep.
I forgot pictures... I just wanted to do something haha
Heating and cooling the dents did bring some of the easy dents up.
Just worked great really. Just not with the deep dents.
Over all I'm happy.
Besides the fact I don't have my block...

Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Its my only day off today..
The shop is closed on weekends and I didn't get a call yesterday for my block. Today I'll head over and see what the guy is doing.. I'm very tempted to just grab my block and leave if he hasn't touched it yet, but then that means waiting longer and have to potentially spend more money on the bore if I were to go to another place.... Plus wait even more.
Orrr when I get there today tell him I'm going to need some type of discount
Or something along them lines.. I don't wanna take my block but I do. Just want him to get the shit done!!
Around 200 for just the bore we had talked about.
We didn't speak on the price to put the Ka pistons on the z22 rods...
Seem that should be free!! I posted a picture here Feb 20 of me dropping the block off at his shop its now 2 months and 9 days of waiting...
unacceptable!

Don't ask for discounts before the work is done.
Work that pays less gets put on the back burner.
