Re: 1962 Datsun U320
Well I was working on the U320 today, I cleaned out the interior, but I noticed something today I never noticed before, it has sort of a heater in it, I am not exactly sure how it works yet, but I believe that when the truck is moving, I can open the air vent and it will blow heat inside the cab.
Here it is, I have never really looked up under the dash before except to connect the speedo drive cable, but I have had the instrument cluster out before, I am surprised I didn't notice it.
I am not really sure if this is stock, it might be home made, I just don't know.
I have never seen anything like this before, Ken said he had it connected before in an email the other day, I thought he meant the heater box he sent with the truck, and I was kinda wondering how he had done that because the heater box core outlets didn't align with the holes in the firewall, now I know what he was talking about.
I might connect up that heater core tomorrow, it will make the hoses in the engine compartment look proper.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
Well here are the floor boards, it's not bad, but it is obvious that the rear side windows were not in it for a while, as the back has some surface rust.
Here is the rust under the back seat cushion.
Here is one photo of the seal around the rear window I put in today, it works, but I could have been cleaner with my cuts.
Here is the door seal, the passenger side looks great.

Here it is with the floor covering it came with installed.
The rear piece under the seat is in really good shape.

Hell that's pretty awesome man. Thanks for the naked photos. Heater core thing is cool too.
Not much rust at all, I'm surprised. I dig the stock location of the E-Brake!

That back explains why the wood was rotted out on the drivers side.......

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
I guess old doors are good for something, making new parts.
So I cut strips of metal the width I needed for the trim mounts, then I pilot drilled them with a small bit, then I redrilled them to the size I needed.
Then I tapped the holes, this is one way to do it.
And this is how I did it.
I then have to cut them out of the strips.
Then clean them up.
This is what I start with.
And this is what I end up with, I did skip a step, but they are not going to be on there long, I still need to weld the screw to the metal square.
Here is what extra trim I have on the truck.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
I hooked up that heater core this morning, it doesn't leak at this time, and it gets warm right away.
Firewall to rear of block.
Out of firewall to water pump outlet.
Now I am going to make an outlet off the bottom of the air control assembly, it's that oval hole, I need to somehow connect that hole to the defrosters, I have a couple ideas.

That's funny, I forgot to take a photo of my home made trim mount pieces in the trim, but you guys get the idea don't you.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
Ratdat was here today, he brought the interior over, things are looking good inside now.
The back seat and rear side panel, for Canby I am not going to have the rear tray or rear ashtray this year.
The front seat, there is more legroom in this truck than a normal L/NL320.
And how one accesses the rear seat.
The passenger side door card.
I will do the other door tomorrow.
The rear ash tray.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
The drivers door is done, I used the clips I got from Todd today, they likely will work better than the double sided sticky tape I used on the other door.
I will likely take the cover off the other side and use clips on it also.
Did not actually get much done today on my stuff, but I got an engine going for Justin.

It's just temporary, just to get it to the Canby show, I am going to remove the passenger door card and use the clips, that double sided tape doesn't work so good.
The clips actually worked good, thankyou.

Re: 1962 Datsun U320
I am just about ready to go, I have given up on the chrome guy, he is a fail, so I proceeded like I had to use whatever was around here, so I mounted the fiberglass NL320 rear bumper I bought from Steroid, I primed the car from the door height down, unfortunately I ran out of primer of the same color.
So now it is a 3 tone vehicle, I wish I had just went and bought some more light gray primer, but what is done is done, it looks better anyway.
It has 620 hubcaps on it, and the front bumper I will mount is ugly.
Here is how it progressed today.
This morning it looked like this.
Then it looked like this.
Now the back looks like this.
It looks like this is what is going to Canby, I am ready.
