i spy a cowl and bed liner at least. maybe even the metal for in front of the dash?

There are 3 things there, the bed liner of course(but that is not Datsun), the 720 piece of metal that the wiper pivots come out of just in front of the windshield, and last of all the 521 bed that the liner is in/connected to sort of.
If you look real close you can see the hooks on the bed side that you can see.
Hey it's the first Datsun anything in my roof replacement photos.
I should have taken a photo of my work truck bed when I was throwing the roofing into it from the roof, but I was focused on removing roofing, not taking photos, I will get a photo of that when I remove the west side of the roof, for now I just wanted to get the leaky sides/valleys done first.

It was nice to take a day off from working on the roof, but tomorrow I will need to finish the felt paper, as there is a chance of a thunder storm in the afternoon.

I have been making progress, I have been using nails for the front half of the roof, it takes forever to use nails, so I ordered a staple gun on Ebay yesterday and it arrived today, I mean that is the fastest shipment I have ever seen.
I bought a BOSTITCH stapler, so when the box arrived, I looked at it and ran to Home Depot and bought the correct size staples, loaded it up, set up the compressor which doesn't seem to want to turn off now at the correct pressure, so I have to shut it down manually, anyway the staples would not load into the gun correctly, I tried to figure it out for a while and decided that the staples were to wide, well it turns out that I have to buy BOSTITCH staples for the BOSTITCH staple gun, to me that is silly, a 1 inch staple is a 1 inch staple to me, they should all be the same size/made the same, but I guess that is not how it is anymore, it's kinda sad.
I found a couple very dusty boxes of staples made by BOSTITCH, I guess that I am lucky, the box holds about 20,000 staples, which is 3 or 4 times what I need, but I have a staple gun that works now, so my progress should speed up dramatically.
OK what I did to get the roofing onto the roof was use my vehicle hoist, I put it on 16 inches of blocks, then I stacked several tires on it to get it high enough that when I raised the hoist it would be high enough for me to grab from the roof, here are some photos of my dangerous lift setup.


Sorry I forgot to take a photo of it lifted up, I was more interested in getting the roofing on the roof than about taking photos, anyway I got about 2 tons onto the roof in a couple hours max, with several breaks.

I have an idea about how to use 2 lifts at the same time to get the rest of the roofing on to the roof, as I was standing on the roofing loading it on top of those tires, the stack of roofing got to low, and the tires got to high, so I tore down that dangerous lift setup when I could not use it anymore.

Things really picked up speed when this arrived.

BTW, I shot an 84 today(40/44), and I got one quadruple bogie(on front), and one triple bogie(on back), figure that one out.

Finally !! I see datsuns!

I got this side done yesterday.

Today I was able to get to within a couple feet or so of the top of where I was standing when I took the photo above, I will easily get that done tomorrow evening, but then I have this part left to do in the photo below.

This side will likely take a couple days to strip and cover, but I am going to wait till I get a forecast of no chance of rain for a week, as I really don't want to work on it more than 4/5 hours at a time, wayno's getting old and don't bounce back like he used to.

I finished the body of the roof today that I had stripped, all I have left is to cut the ends of the roof even and put on the ridge shingles.



I will now wait for another week of no rain and then strip and do this side(photo below), it should take me three 6 hour days to finish it.

Right now it can rain and I will not be worried at all.

It's not the straightest line in the world, but it will do, the ridge cap is done on the main part of the house, now all that is left is over the garage.

Thankyou, I just want to finish it, I am not burnt out on it yet, but I will be happy when it is done, and so will my body.
The staple gun was definitely a good buy, I would not be so far along without it.

Thankyou, it's not that great of a job, but it will likely still be there when I am not around anymore, that was one of the decisions I made when choosing the roofing, how long does it have to last, well I don't expect to live another 30 years, so I am good with this 30 year roof, 10 years ago I would have used something else(50 year), but this stuff is good enough.
I am very happy that I don't have a steep roof, I don't really care how high it is, but I like being able to comfortably walk on it.
I am going to have less than $3000.00 paid out into this roof by the time I am done, plus after I finish and my body heals from all the bending over, I will be a little healthier from all the exercise, I don't do hard work anymore compared the past, this roof is hard work.
Yes I work hard pressure washing, but I have learned how to do it in such a way that it doesn't torture my body like it used to, I get hurt way more working on Datsuns.

I had to figure out how to get the rest of the roofing on the roof, this is what I came up with, I only thought of it when I decided to loan out the engine hoist to a guy, so then it became a rush thing before he came to pick it up.
So here it is.




And here is what it looked like up on the roof.


I decided to strip the west side this evening, it took about 3 hours.



And this is what it looks like in my truck.

I will have to remove all the staples now, and then pull the tar paper off, but first I have to take an air blower up there and blow all the roof granules off the roof, it is very dangerous up there right now, like walking on marbles.

. Yeah for sure should last quite a while provided the neighbors trees aren't letting shat grow all over it , and minimum wind gusts .
Oh yeah I'm right there with you on the roof being able to navigate without having to watch the ground (or the safety rope). I've fallen off a 1.5story roof on a side-job roofing with my brother when I was 15 (yup illegal , but the job was off the main roads and my parents wouldn't let my brother @ 17 go without having me or a reliable friend be there to call 911 ironically) ---> Slid all the way down the valley on my back like water off a cliff so to speak (wood only and smooth...) , and at the last second hooked a gutter with my right foot tippy toes that flipped me 180-degree's forward so I could land like spider man. It was just a bit steeper , but doesn't take much as we all know. Puzzling enough I wasn't hurt at all nor bruised. Got my grip on the cement walkway though weirdly. I wasn't tied off for just that brief 2-minutes while looping rope over. The backside of that house was 2.5+ story's drop off a weird ledge so that could have been a back or hip breaker. My folks are bright (they didn't like us on the roofs anymore than needed) such as life we've worked harder jobs as kids ---> on through time ---> that it ended up being this way for one reason or another.

That is a good round figure for all the materials all in .. not bad at all !
ACTUALLY... I've personally seen my brothers old neighbor lay a roof 1-month later to my old brothers house (we peeled 2-layers/laid it when I was 18 I wanna say ?). My brothers old house across from this was SUPER EASY ... 2 straight runs + no valleys , and same pitch as you're probably dealing with (I think relatively it's been a while ) Wasn't even 1-month later that you could see both the tar paper , and 3-tab blowing off and away or falling down.
I had a good chuckle as they were meth users/producers ? that kept trying to break into his old place , cars , etc the second his family was out the door down the road.

That's quick thinking on the engine hoist , and I wouldn't have thought of that at all.
I will use that idea in the future for other things related or not

This kind of work is harder than it looks.
I remember huffing and puffing as a kid/teenager on the weekends here or there.
It definetly only gets worse with time the last one that I remember , and it's def HARD work all around.
I've had about 8 roofers tell me " If you do this full time from age 18 ... your back will be shot or pulled at least once by about around age 28 give or take-ish "

Lastly I just want to say you should feel great about doing your own irregardless !!! ( I do see you do a lot of your own work )
I have great personal respect for that when you can , and if you can pay for it by working at work instead a lot of hours that's cool to !
I've watched a group professional "roofing" contractors ... either try to take people for a ride or their sub-contractors play lots of games.
Couldn't stand watching that shit , so I put a stop to the sideshow by telling the neighbors what was occuring (different set of neighbors at a different place).
Especially when having their estimates , and real "costs" evaluated especially if you're not home to verify + they probably don't want you on the roof to verify *wink wink* which is "against" their policy
That being said there are some pretty damned impressive ones that work fast !! , with balanced quality , and hard

The roofing is rated for 110mph, that was one of the selling points, and I have to say if I left one of them with the red side up, it only took a minute for it to get stuck to whatever was below it, that tar strip on the bottom worked good.
As for stuff growing on it, well that's not likely going to happen, my old roof got treated so much, that I quit treating it, and 5 years later nothing was growing, so i will keep my eye on it and treat it when needed.
That extension I made did not fit the engine hoist very well, I tried to insert it into the existing black adjustable tube, but it would barely fit, and I was afraid I would not be able to get it out, so I put the tube into that giant hole which made it very wobbly when I would load or unload the platform I welded together in about 5 minutes, if I were to actually use it more than this one time, I would have welded some pieces that would have made the extension solid, I actually only tack welded the thing together, now I can use a cutting disc to cut it apart which should only take a few minutes, by the way, I had to balance the roofing on that platform I made, otherwise it would tilt sideways and fall off, my extension was not the right size, but it would not turn all the way, it would not have worked if it could turn 90 degrees.
You can see the gap in the top where the tube inserts into the engine hoist, that is a half inch gap.

This is where I got today, this morning I pulled all the staples and removed the tar paper.

Then I put the 30lb felt on and called it a day.

I will do the ridge and ends tomorrow and it will be done.
