(6) Externally Stepped Scraper.

To reduce the number of compression rings, a stepped
scraper is used which acts both as a compression ring and as an oil-control scraper ring (Fig.
3.94B). The reduced width of the working face increases pressure against the cylinder walls.
This gives improved sealing and scraping without excessively stressing the ring.

I guess it's cool. These were listed at premium piston rings.

Clevite is a good brand. I have seen many reports of awesomeness. Things like, their bearings have a tighter tolerance than OEM Nissan (KA24 application). And that their 77 series can take a serious beating, reports of oil running dry and the bearings taking all the damage and not the crank, and another report of a fram oil filter imploding into the oil system of a CA18DET and imbedding into the bearings, but the crank didnt even need a polish (but got one for safe measure).

All good quality parts there. I've run Clevite for years (decades?) with great success -- including some questionable patches that seemed to hold up. Great product.

Cleaned the block inside and out. Degreased it and cleaned the gasket surfaces. Called everywhere around here to rent a ball hone. No one had one to rent.. I ended up using my stone style hone. It worked okay. I didn't go ape shit.. put a little cross-hatch in the cylinders and called it good. I probably could have went a bit more but whatever.

Installed the main bearings. Checked clearances, everything was looking good right under .0020 on all bearings.

I was installed the rear main side seals.. wtf. What a major bitch.. is there a trick to this? I had to pull the rear main cap and clean all the RTV off before it dried and made everything worse. I'll try again tomorrow.

Anyone happen to have an extra set of these? Looking for the both side gaskets and spacers. Preferably the thin metal kind. I believe the ones that came in the DNJ kit are too thick. They don't have the thin metal plates that you slide down the middle. They just have moulded round metal strips in the middle. I pretty much fucked the ones I have up and they are unusable. I know most people throw these out since they don't remove the main cap when doing the rear main... I know I used to have a set and I was like.. wtf don't need these.

Please, if you have some I'd love to take them off your hand. I don't want to buy another rear main kit just for the little gaskets.

I got a bit stir crazy and just went and bought a rear main kit... New seals were much smaller and went in very easy.

Warning for those thinking about the DNJ kit. I'll report and other weird findings as I go on.

Me too. Rockauto didn't have any that I saw. Other places were asking double or triple the price of the DNJ kit. We'll see if it was a mistake..

I've used DNJ in the past. Don't remember running in to any snags like that. Quality seemed fine.

Yeah, I read a few good reviews for the DNJ kit.

Here is the difference. DNJ on the LEFT, felpro on the RIGHT

I got my seat skins today. I haven't test fit them but they are definitely looking good. Also got a set of matching wheel well covers. I'm pretty excited to get them back on the seats and installed but I need to finish this engine up first.

I'll grab some pictures and get them posted.

I payed a visit to a local upholstery shop that is going to make new skins for the head rests and bolsters. Should match a bit better with the rear seat and door panels. Also going to have the shop make me some wheel well covers at the same time. Can't wait!!

Although, reinstalling the seat skins is going to be a mofo'in bitch. I can tell already.

Yeah, it's been a while...

I'd like to say it was worth the wait.. but that was a long wait.
