710/711 interchangeability thread

#1

Post by Indy510 »

I'm hoping Redbanner or Eagle_Adam can help me...

-Will a 75 710 wagon ignition switch fit a 74 710 hardtop?
-Will 74 hardtop rear leaf springs bolt to a 75 wagon? .. the shocks look different, so I'm assuming I'd need to swap the parts that hold the leafs to the shocks.
-Are all 710/711 H165 rear axle assemblies the same? .. with the same leaf mounts?
-Will any 710/711 driveshaft fit any 710/711 with the same motor/trans combo? i.e. can my wagon's KA swap bolt into a 74 hardtop, without needing a new driveshaft or tranny mount?
-Do all 710/711's have the same front suspension, cross-members, and T/C rod mounts?
-Asside from the starter wiring being different, what are the differences between 74 710 wiring and 75 710 wiring harnesses?
-Will 75 wagon park bench bumpers fit on a 74 hardtop? The front is probably the same, but I doubt the rear is.

First person to answer one question correctly, gets a picture of my new 74 710 hardtop ... :fu:

Yes, some have an extra ground, may need to tie it in for the blinkers to work
2, yes, the plates are different as you noticed
3, yes, they are all 165s in the us. Small changes in brake linkage.
4, drive shafts interchange between coupe and sedans, wagons are different i believe , mounts all look the same.
5 yes, some difference in top hats, some have alot of camber ofset

I figured the wagon drive-shaft was longer. I will try to measure the wheelbases, and see if the wagon is longer.

Last question: "Will 75 710 hardtop park bench bumpers fit a 74 710 hardtop?" ... I'm driving 2hrs to go get some tomorrow, so I'll let you know

Fronts the same. The back.... it is close width but never tried. It would probably sit lower. The mounts look different.

how can the mounts look different? ... the 74 never came with park benches, right? ... I found some park benches off a 75 hardtop. I hope they will fit, but I might need to modify the mounts. I'm getting a 710 radiator off the guy too, so it won't be a waste of a drive.

is it a hardtop or a coupe? or is it both? ... are 2dr 710's with B pillars called a 2dr sedan?

Sorry for the shitty pic. I don't think I'm going to do a build thread on this one. If I do, it will only be on NWD. I'm tired of all the Ratsun bullshit.

I ment the wagon mounts look different. The sedan and coupe bumper brackets look the same.

Coupes are hardtops, and sedans are just sedans.

I should have looked first, but I think the 1974 rear tail panel is totally different than a 1975 .... there's no room for a license plate on a 74

The 74 has a body line directly under the tailights, but the 75 body line looks lower down and it has a plastic filler piece ... is the sheetmetal different Redbanner?

Another weird thing ... the 75 front turn signals don't plug into the 74 harness ... and the front side markers don't either

I know the front calipers are different after 75 ... any other differences? ... Datzenmike says the sedan and wagon drive-shafts are the same (so probably coupes too?)

The coupe drive lines are the same as sedan for sure, ive swapped them on mine. The plugs for the harnesses are different styles on early ones. Some have an interlock under the hood, some have different ignition relays than later ones.
There are a few things that have way different plugs but are generaly the same. Ive seen alot of different wiring things on almost every 710 ive worked on. And there are several sub harnesses also, depending on options.
