Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
Installed the head and torqued it down. Decided to reuse the timing components because they were installed fairly recently. First thing, Made in the USA. No gold links. No big deal, 44 link(pins).
Cam sprocket has 3 holes, can't see timing marks. Sprocket has side to side play, which could be normal, not sure on that one. Looking into ordering OSK from NAPA. (THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A BUDGET BUILD....)
Thoughts?

At a standstill with the motor... still have free time. Time to tackle some surface rust and knock out a few dents.

Do you see what I see? Filllllllller. This quarter has been resprayed, not a shocker. Also filler on the drivers side tail light panel. Damage doesn't look too bad underneath.. just looks like a quick and lazy repair.

Bad pictures.. but I started to work this spot again tonight. It looks like someone tried to fix this area before and didn't take their time to knock out the dent. It was very bumpy.. this is after about an hour of tap, tap tap tap tap tap tap tap....
Still has a long ways to go here. patience.. and more tapping.

Besides those spots.. there are about 20 single bare metal spots where someone ground down some rust.. and left it bare metal. Then it rusted again.. lol
Time to try to get a working sand blaster... and a lot of plastic to contain the mess.

If that gear is moving and the cam isn't, then you are either missing the dowel pin, or it is a piece of shit gear, there should be no play at all, the gear and cam are tight, "0" play.

I'm lean towards shitty gear. It's for sure on the pin. I thought about measuring the dowel pin and the hole to see how much play there actually is. The OSK kit is looking better and better.

Looks like there was some ugly stuff hiding... this is not the original quarter panel apparently. It needs some work...

I think you need a different timing chain cam gear, that hole is the size of the Lincoln tunnel.

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
So I removed the SU's and put back the stock carb. Fired it up.. it's not running great but it runs. The 69 carb had a hardline that went to the vacuum advance on the dizzy... I loaned that to someone for they could test their stuff. Now I don't have it.. and I can't get ahold of them. So... long story short, I don't have it. No idea where I'd find a plug that small either. fuuuu....

It's brand new. The old and new one were the same. Neither one are stock though.wayno » Sun Feb 22, 2015 10:36 pm wrote:I think you need a different timing chain cam gear, that hole is the size of the Lincoln tunnel.
