It's a start. Still in the honeymoon phase.
Not fully ready to admit it has issues-but it does need some love.

Just to buy another 521 that blew up on me hours after I had gotten it.

It was the second one I HAD to sell. Old Rice; Joey's truck.

I should have never sold this one. Ever.
Things will be better with this one. Hence, thread title.

So what's the planned direction of the build?

Step 1. Secure previously owned vehicle.
Step 2. Modify.
Step 3. ???
Step 4. Profit.

Kidding.

We wanted a truck to help with moving. I get that it's not much of one-but it is more than what we had prior.

For now, get the 521 reliable, legal, and comfortable.
Need the 521 running. Not disabled. For now.

After housing is secured, then I can go over board and do something fun.

Clutch fluid leaking from master and slave. Parts ordered.
Turn signal switch inop. uberkevin is sending me one.
Rear view mirror missing. Still up in the air about this one. All I need is the stalk and screws. I have glass from a 620 that will fit stalk.
Front markers missing light sockets. Reverse light sockets gone too.
Needs bars to be indexed properly; not just cranked down at max.
Needs shocks horribly.
Runs warmer than I am comfortable with.
Get rid of the goofy hood pins I installed when I was new and dumb.
Needs bumpers. Front and rear.
Dash needs love. Recover 521 top or 520 dash wanted.
LEDs for cluster.

5 speed. 5speed. 5 speed.

I'm gonna be playing around with it tomorrow. We'll see how far I get.

Again, this is my old truck. Owned it, sold it, bought it.

When I sold it I sold it to someone we'll call Guy A. Guy A is no one important in this mix.
Who is important is Guy B. Guy B's name is Sergio. Sergio bought the Green Machine from Guy A 3 months after he had bought it.

Sergio. That fucking guy. He will be mentioned a few times through all of this.

Well, Sergio had pressed so hard that he did so much good for the truck. Blah, blah, blah.
One of his remarks-he went through and got all the lights working.

Image

You call that working? SMH. And both front markers are like this.

I have an idea though.

Image

Every couple of years, a 620 gets dropped off and abandoned in my yard. Advantage: gato plano.

620:

Both measure about 4"x2" with a 3 1/2" spacing for the screws.

Well would you look at that.

Need to plug them in still. Wind picked up and the cotton is pretty thick this this year.
I'll be back out there in a few.

One thing more I like about NWD. You can post here, then copy it to paste right in Ratsun.

Not so much the other way around.
That means you guys get updates first. Original content.

A few questions...The Wayno mod tranny...is it only 85-86 2WD shorty? I heard someone say they used an 84.

Anyways, found this... http://yakima.craigslist.org/pts/4984182754.html
And I could steal the 71B 4 speed front case from the Bitch20 in my front yard.

Also, HEI dizzy from a 620...same pedastal as a matchbox dizzy?

Any short shaft 5 speed out of a 720 that has a speedo drive will work, I don't know for sure when they started putting short shafts in the 2wd 720s, I would not be surprised if the 84 regular cab/short box 720 had a short shaft in it.
I have used the long shaft 4 speed front case on a 720 5 speed in the past, I believe it was a long shaft I used it on, but that would not matter, just check to make sure all the shift lever shaft holes are the right size before you put it together, I have a diesel case on a 620 transmission out back, so a 620 5 speed front case might also work, just make sure all the holes are the right size.
I cannot tell if that is a short shaft in that ad.

Wayno...does that trans I posted look like the right one?

I'd really like to have a 5 speed before I think about driving to Portland.

I cannot tell if it is even a short shaft, I have not looked at 5 speeds recently.
Did you ask exactly what the truck was it was out of?
Only the regular cab/short box 2wd 720s had short shafts, not sure the exact year they started using short shafts, but the 2wd kingcabs all had long shafts.

No. I just found it. Waiting till Tuesday(pay day) before I start spending money.

There are 3 potential 720 trans within 50 miles of me.

What all will I need to be with trans when I buy it? Fork and shifter, right? Is that it?
