Still Pretty Original 510 Wagon

So I've got this now.

Image

I flew to Lewiston and bought this from Kim in Clarkston. Big thanks to Kim and Adam for helping get it tuned up and ready for the 500 mile drive home.

Image
Image

So I got it home, no problems at all.
Image

Then I washed it
Image

And started digging through some minor issues...

Some pinholes in the filler neck. Smothering this in fiberglass and protecting it as well as I can until I can afford a legitimate fix.

Oh finally an update, glad to read you made it home. :cha:

glad Adam made it over to my place, other wise we might not have found that crushed fuel filter.
Tell you the truth, Adam got it running better then I had it.

now that you got it all washed up, I should of asked for more money. ;)

anytime your over this way again, call and we will have a place for you to stay at.

Got to ask, did you figure out what the mileage was, just curious.

Thanks Kim, you should see how nice the drivers side is. I'll let you know next time I roll through if I do.

Mileage is probably nearing 200k. The odometer says 64000, but the engine runs strong and the only signs of past engine repairs are the cheap fuel pump, a really minor oil leak at the top of the timing cover and a receipt for a new muffler from 1984. Got a ticky rocker arm in there too but I'll get that squared away soon.

Gave the floorboards a look. No rust, not even around the plug.
Image
But I figured since I had the carpet up and all clean I might as well lay down some insulation.
Image

Got a fuel tank patch kit and fiberglassed the rust holes. Then wrapped it in the peal and seal to help protect it. I've still gotta come up with a new inner rear fender piece to really protect it from the road.

Just wanna get it sealed up and insulated for winter. Maybe get some new steering linkage and tighten all that up. I'm gonna keep it stock height for now, probably with beefier tires for the winter. I wanna keep this one for a few years so I'm not gonna slam it or do anything too questionable to the suspension.

don't believe the mileage is much over 100,000 cause the original carpet is still in the wagon plus the clutch/brake pedal are not worn through.

if it was close to 200,000, the carpet would be gone and pedals worn through.

if you go through the receipts in the glove box, there might be some paper work to confirm that.

Yeah, I've been digging through reciepts. Turns out the rear muffler is the aftermarket one. I've still gotta do some reading to get a better idea of the mileage. Could very well be more on the 100 side.

Looks like your shitty bearing situation put you in the right place at the right time. Judging by past projects I know this is in good hands. Congrats!

So I think the valve seals are leaky. Every morning it blows out a cloud of blue smoke but after a good rev it clears out.

And the top seam on the radiator has a small leak, hopefully I can solder that up before my family shows up for the weekend. Anyone have any tips for fixing a leaky top seam on a radiator?
It's up under this seam:

there's a few ways to fix the leak, use either radiator stop leak or black pepper. To me, then are temp repairs or find a good 521 radiator since they are the same or fix it like a radiator shop does, remove the upper tank. If you want to remove the tank, give me a call and I'll explain how it's done.

I've used Bars Stop Leak and it worked pretty good. I guarantee the leak I had was probably worse than what you're dealing with.

Lol, that is actually in the factory service manual for the Suzuki LT250R. To use that shit when you replace all the water pump stuff.
