It looks good, that era is my favorite look, but they didn't look like that when they were made.
We have had better materials to work with since the 60s, better wheels, engines, ect.

Agreed on every point. Today's manufacturers will run a design basically unchanged for years and years. Back then every year had a new body style. I've always been partial to the mid-late '30s Fords. They were just an attractive bunch of vehicles. They don't need to be chopped or channeled to look good -- just alter the stance and add a set of wheels and change the whole personality. Add to that some more modern drivetrain and they become reliable enough for everyday use. Hell, I drove my '35 almost every day for years including a hundred mile commute.

I'll cross-post this to the battlestations thread. Since I moved all my good tools to work I've had no real tool storage at home. I have some tools, just no good place for them to live. They're scattered all over the bench and floor along with some in a smallish box that came from my grandma's garage over 20 years ago. Sooo, I worked a deal with my Cornwell guy and did some shuffling.
New 700 series cart for work...

...and the old double-stack came back home.

I'm still in the process of setting both up but I think it'll work out fine. Everything from the double-stack plus quite a bit more fit into the new Cornwell.

Almost forgot; Picked up this swamp cooler from my boss so it's going to go live at Compound East where it gets hot in the summer. Hopefully it keeps my dad cooler when he's out in his shop working on projects.

Was talking to my dad over the holiday. Since his '36 is pretty much done, he's looking for projects. We're tossing around the possibility of sending the Smell Camino over to his place for some cosmetic attention. My vision is a patina preservation with an interior restoration. Need to get the 327 rebuilt and installed first though. Still in the planning stages.

Believe me, no one wants it to be done more than I do. I've gone as far as I can until some body work is completed. My dad has helped a ton doing grunt work as far as paint stripping and even roughing out some work on the passenger B-pillar and rocker area. Basically, my brother is holding us hostage. We've even discussed finding a body shop to finish it and just going out of pocket even though my brother has essentially been paid twice already to do it. It's a pretty sore subject at this point.

Hope so. I love em. They buy my stuff, usually don't bother to haggle, and are typically fun to talk to. The guy this morning looked like an old logger and has a metal fab business. Picked these up for his '40 & '46 Fords.

Anyone over done any pinewood derby racing? I guess these qualify as Compound projects. My brother built these for a charity fundraiser at his shop. They raced bracket eliminations and also did People's Choice judging too. None of the cars won the speed portion but he had a wedge shaped speed car (not pictured) that took 2nd due to drawing the slow lane. After the official runs were tallied and they ran some grudge races it couldn't be beat as long as it had the fast lane.
The '32 took 1st in the judging.

The boat tail wasn't a race winner either but it took 2nd in People's Choice. These pics are before the whitewalls were installed. He also painted in the grill and added louvers down the hood sides.

Remember when I posted about lining up 4 old pickups at the Pendleton show next June? Well, that obviously won't be happening now. The timeline is moved out at least another year. Sooooo, my dad has his blue '36 up for sale (ebay first) and his '64 El Camino goes on the block around Christmas time. He's got his eye on a '35 pickup in California that is being sold by a body shop that supposedly is ready to paint.
I'll be over at Compound East in a couple weeks so hopefully I'll get a chance to drive them one more time before they find new homes.

I did pinewood derby cars when I was younger. Stupid kid that won did nothing to his car. No paint, no sanding. Left it as a block and attached wheels.

The other fast car was similar. Think VW bus/pickup. So much wood got removed that when it was filled with lead to meat weight, they could only add it to the front.
