79 Datsun 620 project

Post by djmccall74 »

Hello all! I've read quite a few 620 build threads for awhile now, and figured it was my turn to post a few pics of the progress I've made with my own project. I've always liked the way the 620 looks, and i've been a big fan of lowered pups for some reason, so this summer I decided to get serious about my looking and stumbled across what I considered the perfect base to start my project with. Nothing so pristine or "classic" that I would have a guilty conscience about altering, and not some rust bucket that would take tons of $$$$ to get off the ground. Lucky for me I found her in North Carolina, which is about 5.5 hours from me. I took a leap of faith after talking with the owner and purchased her before even going up to see it first. I rode up on the Kaw, shoved it in the back, and took the journey home. She drove great, and i'm very happy with my purchase. Over the past 3 months, I've done quite a bit of work as you'll see in the pictures.

Dropped her off for a fresh coat of paint today. I'll post pics when she's all nice and ..... kawasaki green in a week or so:

Welcome, nice truck, loose the rear bumper permanently, find some bumperettes if you can.

Surprised how nice the body looks coming from NC. And it's got carpet - WOW, rare in my book.

Welcome to the form aka NWD. Looking forward to seeing the kawasaki green.

thanks for the reps all!!

the rear bumper was the FIRST thing i took off. that thing was gawd awful!

i'm definitely looking for a set of "bumperettes", so if you all know where i could find something nice, please share.

I'm working on the following items while she is in the shop. when she returns, everything will be bolted on and be ready to go (well except the A/C and dash - i plan on taking her somewhere to restore the dash and install A/C and heat)

- polish front bumper
- paint datsun 1200 front chin
- paint outside door handles black
- new interior upholstery
- new NRG short steering hub and wood grain steering wheel
- new steering column
- paint front grill black

I love how large that Colorado looks next to the 620.

I like the direction thus far! Keep up the good work!

Welcome, nice looking truck - you're off to a great start!

I dig those seats in there. That could make for a nice living room. :D

Nice progress so far. I'd love to find a kc 620 but it'd probably lay dormant like my other cars.

Where about are you located in GA?

got a txt from the paint shop this afternoon with a pic attached. i go to pick her up tomorrow. from what i can see, it turned out exactly how i wanted! progress on the chin, and front bumper went well. the new steering wheel and steering column came in. taking the kids to six flags this weekend, so i don't expect much progress other than getting her home. i'll take a ton more pictures tomorrow and post them up.

Thanks all!!!!

Woke up early and went and picked "The Hulk" up (my son named him). :) Six Flags didn't open until 4 pm today, so had a little time to install the grill and bumper. Thinking of not putting the Datsun emblem back on the grill. thoughts/opinions?

Looks a little blank without the emblem.. or an emblem of some kind. But your truck.. it looks great already.

i'm torn with the wheels. i really liked them polished. i think the wheels will look better with the following:
-black side view mirrors
-chin mounted black (should go on this week/weekend)
-door handle/key hole painted black

for now, the emblem stays off. once the above are done, we'll see where things stand.
