Re: CL ads
You're absolutely right. The next one I get will be a short 720. Stronger is better. Actually, I think I have one already.. but that's for my 2 door.
But, I'm not afraid of repairing a cheap dogleg either.

Re: CL ads
I have a cheap L series dogleg sitting under my 510 right now... No 1st synchro, 2nd usually has a crunch, 3rd sometimes has a crunch. No noises. Comes with my home made short shifter.

We shall see if he gets his asking price. A little over a year ago there was a shortbed, std cab, '80 4X4 in NorCal (I posted it here) for something like $13K ... with a lot less miles, too. I wrote the seller, I don't think he sold it. It might have been in Middletown, where they had really bad fires last summer - then again I could be wrong - but I was wondering if that truck made it out of there, or if it burned. That would have been a shame.
These "one year only" trucks are cool, but I doubt anyone will pay a lot for one.

Nice truck, no doubt.
Got me thinking, I don't ever remember seeing a diesel 4X4. Did they exist? If so, were they common?

They have lots of diesel 720s in Asustralia, every cab including double cabs, 2wd and 4X4.
I have been searching for a RHD 4X4 power steering gear over there for years, only the 4X4 had a power steering option, very rare option.

Did we get diesel 4X4 720s here though?

No, but Canada has a few, so few that we don't hear about them at all.

The 720s out there are ones that the owner made them, one has to make an oilpan/oil pick up tube for the stock chassis, there is one in Vancouver.
I even made one with a straight axle, but I was of the opinion that the engine didn't have the power to push my 521 kingcab 4X4 down the freeway at a decent speed, so I moved the kingcab to a 2wd frame, it is the 521 kingbab you have all seen, it barely has enough power to do freeway speeds.
Here it is as a 4X4.

Re: CL ads
The engine just doesn't have the power needed to make an all around decent driver 4X4, and mine has the larger SD25, but I guess that is my opinion, as there are lots of them in Australia, so I guess I don't like under powered vehicles, or maybe they don't use 4X4 trucks on the hiways over there, it's a totally different place over there, and the people likely think about things differently than us over here.
