Jacked up back? Unheard of in your profession.

Re: Redemption? flatcat's 521
Got a little more work put in...
Did that^ to both sides.
Also gave the banjos and bleeders the same treatment I gave the adjusters.
I did not take pics because I was busy at work doing that between jobs.
Tomorrow-install master cylinder, adjust/bleed brakes, drive.

So...Diego, from over there, is getting a bit anxious for pics.
And Lou and Mike are getting the Friday night giggles, mistaking 'Pics' for 'dicks. You Canadians should really get out more.
And since NWD gets first updates...Diego can fucking wait!
Today's goal: install brake master cylinder, bleed and adjust brakes, then drive. Hm...
Old:
New:
While doing everything, found that the plug for the brake switch was missing. Someone taped a piece of cardboard over the hole.
Not good enough.
At the end of the night...
On the ground. Wheels torqued. Solid pedal.
Driving The Green Machine to work tomorrow. Pedal is too tight. I'll adjust it back a little there.
I was just too excited to throw it around my neighborhood for a bit.
Really pleased.
Motor swap next. But not in any rush.
Maybe sometime after gatoland BBQ.

Re: Redemption? flatcat's 521
I'm doing wheel cylinders and brakes on mine this year. I've done 1 cylinder and can't for the life of me remember the size. Did you get 3/4" or 5/8". When I ordered them off rock autio they offered 2 sizes and I guessed and guessed right. Now I can't rememberflatcat19 » Wed Mar 02, 2016 10:42 pm wrote:Got a little more work put in...

These are 3/4". Fronts.
I can't remember what sizes the rear was.
Order the CENTRIC brand stuff. I've been using their products for years.
Really like them.

Re: Redemption? flatcat's 521
Been driving the shit outta this thing the last couple of days. Really enjoying it!
Went to go to the store today. I have a Datsun buddy that lives a couple of blocks away from me.
His name is Issac. Issac also owns a 521. His truck is really clean actually.
Anyways, driving to the store on the main road, I pass the road he lives on....Boom! Here comes his truck.
We both pulled in to a parking lot and got some pics together.

Re: Redemption? flatcat's 521
So...Kevin gave me this alt. last time he was in town.
Part no. comes back saying it fits a 78-79 620. It looks like a Datsun alternator.
IS it a keeper? Should I source a different alt? Will this one be powerful enough?

Re: Redemption? flatcat's 521
I would put it in your 521, but you might have to use a longer fan belt or make a lower alternator mount, look at keeping it as far away from the idler arm as possible.
You will also need to use jumper wires to bypass the external voltage regulator, as I believe that is an internally regulated alternator.

In one of the pics you can see someone already grinded this thing down to fit closer to the block.
Is it really just that easy as far as wiring goes?
When I had the blue 521, we put a huge KA alt in it. Perfect clearance.
This one looks really close to the same size as a stock 521s.

Yes wiring is that easy. I just cut the plug of my voltage regulator and looped it there.
Im mostly confused why there are threads in the lower holes. Bolts go through those holes...

If the alt is small like the stock alt, and it mounts the same way then you are good to go, but if it is slightly bigger like the early 720 alt then you have to tilt it to the outside farther because it hits the lower radiator hose outlet, this puts it very close to the top of the idler arm, my mount bolts were getting broke off all the time because the engine torqued sideways and the alt would hit the idler arm, I made another mount that lowered the alt and moved the bottom mounts out farther so I could tilt the top in farther.
This is how I jumpered my plug when I converted over to an internally regulated alt.
And this is the mount I made, but I welded this thing together, never thought about making these, doesn't seem like there would be a need/market for them.

Drum brakes suck! If Kyle was still on a 521 frame I would have found a cheap disc conversion by now...
