Got busy and broke lol. Hood is painted, but I have to sand off and redo the green and give the purple another coat. Green cracked, layed it on too thick and it pooled near the front of the hood.

Did spray part of the engine bay black, and got a fender off and on black. Stole a few things off the 510 to mock up on the 710, but they'll be going back onto the 510. Problem with being scatterbrained and having more than one project(2 cars, yard, room in the house being redone with thoughts of a baby...) plus new job and going back to school. I start one thing and two days later move to something else lol

Also picked these up today. Not sure what they'll go on just yet, depends on what they fit. Trying to find out more info on em if we have any wheel nuts here, focus racing mesh, 13x6

So 510 and 710 front struts are fairly identical, correct?

They will work on a 710, but the calipers/rotors and hubs are all different. 710 spindles are bigger, so none of the 510 parts will fit on 710 struts and vise versa. The 75 and older 710 calipers "might" be the same as 510 calipers, but the 76-77 710 calipers are definitely different.

Not so much worried about interchanging parts from one to another. Thinking about lowering possibilities for both the 710 and 510. I'll have a spare set of 710 struts, but the 510 has been pushed to the front of the line for now. Was more curious if I could shorten the 710 struts and put them on the 510 so it could still be driven while the 510 ones get shortened, then rearrange them again after the 510 ones get shortened and put the 710s onto it. May not happen that way, but if it comes to it I'd like to know if it works or not. May just do trial and error once I get the spare 710 apart and neither is moving, but figured I'd ask and save myself time if it's been tried and don't work. Can't find anything on it which isn't surprising, as it makes virtually no sense other than for what I'd be doing.

I'm not sure what causes the positive camber problem on 710's, cause my wagon still has it with 280zx struts. I had stock 710 struts on my 510, just to roll it around. They might be a little longer than 510 struts, but everything bolts up. Camber plates might be a good idea, just in case the 710 spindle angle causes positive camber. 510 struts would be worth more, when shortened, and there are big brake kits for 510 struts/hubs that won't fit 710 hubs. 510 parts are also easier to find, but 280zx struts are even better (and already shorter)

Here's my 510 (on the right) with stock 710 struts, it's hard to tell if the positive camber would go away with a motor, but it seemed higher than a normal shell:

Perfect, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Not too worried about brakes, neither is getting more than an l20, 510 already has rear discs 710 will have them, so stopping power isn't an issue. I may go 280zx one day, but I already have a spare set of 710 struts, and all it costs me to shorten them is a 6 pack for my welder buddy and cost of a 280zx cartridge that I'd have to get anyways. If I do end up doing this, I'll be sure to let you know about whether engine weight fixes the positive camber or not

Not sure if this applies or not but I'll throw it out there anyway; I was over at Mike Klotz's place once and we were playing with struts and found out there are 2 different ZX units. The difference is in the angles between the tube and spindle -- something like 7 and 10 degrees. You can check this with one of those magnetic driveline angle finders. We couldn't figure out why or when Nissan made that change but it seems to be the reason some guys need camber plates and some guys don't. So, as far as 510 vs 710 goes, I'd check that angle before going through the trouble of swapping them around. If the angles are the same they'll probably work fine for a swap.

If they're both stock angles wouldn't plates just be for wheel fitment?

710 top hats have camber built into them. half of the ones ive come across are installed in correctly but if you putt a ruber band around the three top studs you can see that the insert nut will be way off center. they started using these offset top hats very early, even in some 74s. but never fixed the issue by changing the strut towers. wich is good for any 510 guys who want alittle more camber with a stock looking strut top. but bad for any one trying to use a 510 strut on a 710 without slotting the strut towers.

So basically 710 on 510 should theoretically be OK, 510 on 710 not so much?

Had to stop at Schwab for tires on the wife's car. Knew people usually have issues finding 13s so figured I'd ask if they carry them, was surprised when dude said yes

bingo, just pay attention to the offset when your installing them. for reference... I believe one stud is usually longer... if memory serves

This is a fairly extreme trade for something that can be bought fairly cheap at a hardware store or a used tool place compared to your nut.
