So back to this truck I went!

First up..... Doing this transmission install I've been putting off for a long while :/

NismoDr loaned me this cute little tool!
Image

Holds the torque converter in place until the trans is up and in position, worked like it was designed that way......

Took me and my little bro a couple hours to finally get everything lined up right and the bell housing bolts in. But done is done!

Next was something I've wanted to do since we picked up the truck.....

My OCD was going bonkers!!

The Blue door cards, blue knob on the window crank(only one side, other was black...), and the screws holding the door cards on we're driving me nuts.

The truck never came with the nice formed/shaped metal lines that go around the front of the motor.....

And the red coolant line wasn't gunna fly either -.-
Image

Which ment 3 things;

- all new hoses for the fuel and coolant systems!
&
- I spent some time playing with hoes and how I wanted them to lay ;)
&
a fresh fuel filter for good measure

Thought zip ties and a "T" fitting would work to replace the metal lines I'm missing and keep the new matching black hose away from the fan blade and still allow coolant to flow through all the passages it was supposed.....

Image

Image

But I diddnt trust em :/

So I reused an old bracket for the coolant line
Image

And made another bracket for the fuel line
Image

Image

Much happier with the 2nd outcome :) still used a few zip ties but there's something comforting about nuts n bolts :D

Next up will be some strategic black paint additions(rad, brakebooster, few spots in the bay, ect)

Then hopefully I stay on track and wrap up the driveline/ carrier bearing install next

Still need to hook up the hardlines, gear selector, speedo cable, tranny x-member and a few odds and ends too.

Cleaned up the rad with a wire bush and brake clean

It's just a can of paint that was lying around.... Nothing special

In my eyes It was a $0 out of pocket fix/upgrade to me and the only safe one to do with my intoxication levels last night......

But now Ive got the painting bug :/

Sooooo...

Off with its hood!
Image

Cus this shits been driving me nuts since we bought it
Image

And the underside of the hood is the only part of the exterior that hasn't received a new coat of paint since it left the factory and it needs it..... Bad

So today started with a buddy's 08 Tacoma, just simple regular routine maintenance stuff. (Belt/tensioner/and idler pulleys, air filter, cabin filter, brake pad check, and rewired the 3rd brake light on his canopy cus a board cop pulled him over for it at some point for it being out)

The belt had started squealing bad yesterday....... which was what prompted all this to happen today. He's not mechanical at all, but he is a computer wiz and head of the IT dept at his work ;)

I'm sure you see where this is going ;)

A trade of services was hashed out and he picked up beer so off I went!

Image

Took a few hours but he got here early and I figured I'd have plenty of time later on in the day to do a few things I had planed......

I managed to make it 1/2 way thru dinner and I got a txt from a diff buddy...

He "broke" a tierod "or something" and had work in the AM :/

Great..... well I was off and running again, headed to his place an hr away.

Arrived 2 hrs later cus my dumbass forgot about rush hour traffic -.-

So we pushed his maxima out of the muddy grass pit it was in and into the driveway.
Image

Image

Popped it onto some stands and from there it was pretty obvious what the problem was once the tire came off :/

Yup... Tie rods fucked :/
Image

I had never seen a "ball stud" as I'm calling it, actually pull out of the tie rod housing it was pressed into... Sheared in two or the threads stripped sure, but this was a new one
Image

Luckily we found a replacement part in stock( this is after 8pm too)

Sooo, here we go!
Image

Was past 1am at this point....
Image

But I gave it a "tape measure allingment" and called it a night.

And when it rains it pours right??

Seems like it anyway, cus I have another friends 87 Volvo 240dl showing up via AAA tow truck in 3 or 4 hours :/

Apparently she let it sit for about 6months while she was out of the country.....

AAA jumped it, though all was kosher but it diddnt even make it a block ;)

New battery cus AAA said so, supposedly AAA also said the alt was charging ok, so....... Try #2! Still diddnt make it a block and that's where she gave up and called me

Here's to hoping I can catch a power nap b4 it shows up!

Doubtful but hey, a guy can dream!

So the Volvo took a few days longer than expected

Image

Always problems with hoes....
Image
This was special order only hoes too....

Image

But the owner loves her old car and laid down some bux to fix it this time and has already asked for the cost on the next parts list so it will be back some day

And off it went!

Then it was off to Eugene to deliver Jessi the last few things she needed for the goon to be mobile again, even made it to a local show

Image

Jessi's dad has had this in the works for a bit but while I was there he finally gave it to me!

Carb tinkering
Image

Wiring clean up
Image

That's better!
Image

And.....
Carb linkage fixed and carb reinstalled, new throttle cable in and adjusted, air cleaner on, engine bay is wired, fans in, radiator is in and painted, new heater core hoses and grommets installed, new radiator hoses trimmed to fit and installed, new rad cap and thermostat are in! Many thanx to Jessi for wrapping up some of the loose ends while if fought with the carb!

Just a few more things and this bad boy will be ready for a test fire/drive

Image
Image

Unfortunately soon as I went for the 1st test fire since the truck broke down I realized the battery was dead..... Grrrrr

So on the charger it went and off I went to find more stuff to finish on the never ending to do list

The seatbelts have always been a bit janky and the pass seat wiggles around....
