Re: The "Retired" 510
Since it was already off I decided to see why the front left fender looks so weird. Here's why, lumpy as hell. The filler is actually twice as thick as the panel at the side marker opening..

Re: The "Retired" 510
Yes it is. Lol
I've got to cover this up hole with something ugly for now. Probably an old Rubbermaid tote lid. I'll have to make another shroud some day, but I might still use the other fan as a pusher on the grille side. I feel like the one fan will probably be fine for the most part, but the reassurance of a second fan would be nice...
I finished trimming the throttle body side of this intake tube to fit. This puts the filter right next to the left shock tower and just out of the way of the radiator filler.
And I spent what I think is too much time on a lost cause, but at least the front face of the fender is where it is supposed to be and flush. The eyebrow trim will actually fit now. I'll see what I can do about smoothing everything out with filler, but I'm not putting much effort into it. Lol
Currently in search off a door, and fender.

Re: The "Retired" 510
I think I'd be tempted to leave that fan hole open. Let the open side breathe and you may find that yours doesn't cycle often. My car runs a single fan on a Jetta Radiator and it rarely even comes on.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Great, now I get to see about breaking the unbreakable E6000 glue bond on the shroud patch. lol. At least it's stuck to spray paint, might make it easier. Before I saw your replies I asked every roommate available if they thought there were enough leaks in my shroud to not worry about opening the second hole. I was thinking it wouldn't flow well enough and it would make the shroud 'balloon' out with the wind pressure...
Anyone have any idea how this will fit on the 510? Stock header. From here it looks like it should be pretty close. Then again, everything looks like it could work on Ebay. haha

I can't tell in the pictures but is the engine sitting level? These are front sump engines from what I remember so you'll want it level if it isn't.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Yeah I think they engine is nice and level. This was a worry of mine, but it turned out fine.
The radiator found itself a home, but the intake tube still needs a bit of trimming before it's done. Also started getting the front end put back together. It's looking like an engine bay again!
Here's how I think I'm gonna do the fuel.
1. Feed 5/16"
2. Block off
3. Air Circ to atmosphere
4. Return 5/16"

Re: The "Retired" 510
Remember the tank feed line is 1/4" while the return is 5/16". The 1/4 feed line is NOT enough to feed the fuel injection. That's how I killed the last race motor in the 510. I had it sucking from the larger return line and used the feed line as the return. Then one day, it was pointed out that was incorrect, and I thought, oh yeah, it is! And changed it back. And that next day at 5000 rpm, I remembered why I had done that. I
f you use the larger 5/16" return line as feed, it starves below half tank as it doesn't go all the way to the bottom like the feed line.
The solution is to have a good (and smart) welder, make a 5/16" bung in place of the 1/4". But run a new suck tube in the tank as well or you're just defeating yourself.

Re: The "Retired" 510
After I saw that I pulled the level sender unit out and filled the tank with light. Sure enough, the 5/16" inlet doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the tank. I thought it did, hmmm. I'll have to rethink this. I'm not sure how easy it'll be to find a welder to do this though.
The lower tube I have marked is the 1/4" outlet, the upper is the 5/16" return.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Well I figured I may as well get it over with and went ahead and made a new fuel hard line. Just need to make another and I can be done with it.
Also got something nice...

Re: The "Retired" 510
I agree, but I love them. I wasn't actually expecting them to be as mint as they were in photos. They're very clean, and with the arm rests, window roller, and door handle they're stunning
Got this short shift kit installed after having to grind down the ears on the trans. It shifts very nice. First photo is 1st gear, second is 2nd gear.
P.S. install sound defender LAST. I had to pull mine back out and it pulled tons of paint...

Re: The "Retired" 510
CAN/AM box wired up. Next is the starter and fuel pump. Almost done with the wires!!!!
Sooo, the threads on the fuel tank drain plug are 12x1.25
And there's this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/162337221568
See what I'm saying? Other than the danger of sucking the crap that settles at the bottom of the tank, I can't see why I shouldn't. It's gotta be better than dropping a rubber line from the top of the tank like I have now...

Re: The "Retired" 510
Fuel pump installed and wired to CAN AM box, just need to add the ground wire. Starter is wired up, rubber lines are all in place for the fuel, just need to tap a filter in-line some place, I might use a second filter for the first few fill-ups too.
I still need to re-install the 510 engine bay harness so I can finish up the alternator, ooooh sweet internal regulation! Speaking of that engine bay harness, I ordered a used one a few months ago and just started looking closer at it. It's in the same condition as the one I was replacing. I didn't know my junk harness was worth so much. Now I have two junk harnesses.
Yesterday I started thinning down the KA harness because there's just too much wire. It's already a little better, but still lots to go. I grew a brain and decided to hold off on the rest until I get the motor started, I'm cautious, lol.
Not any photos of all this, because cramped shots of wiring and fuel lines are boring. lol
Lot's of needs, and my free time is running dry. Should be back to 60 hour work weeks here soon...
