Ugh. Nissan plumbing is ridiculous. I think you're wise to eliminate all you can.

Re: The "Retired" 510
So I must have had this leak all along. The radiator cap doesn't even get hot while idling in my driveway now. But I found that my heater control valve leaks when it's closed off and the system is pressurized. Does just fine when it's open though. I'll be looking into a replacement now, but I want to find something I can open and close mechanically with the 510 lever. Electronic sounds good until I remember I'll have to put a switch or button somewhere to control it. Trying to keep the interior as stock as possible...
Techflex will be here today, I'll see how it goes.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Those heater valves are rebuildable. Mklotz used to have a little tutorial on it. Just a couple Orings IIRC.

I rebuilt mine. Probably a one-time rebuild. You have to pry some brass tabs out of the way to open it. Then bend them back to close. I nearly broke one. Just used a oring kit from Napa.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I did rebuild it. Used oring part numbers at Napa from a tutorial I found. The process went smooth, nothing broke and it all went back together fine...
I got an assortment of vacuum caps and coolant caps this morning. Should clean my make shift plugs up great.

Re: The "Retired" 510
I ended up bypassing the heater completely and I've still got a leak somewhere. I'm kinda stumped on this to be honest. I also would rather not spend all my time away from work on the car.
Despite the issues, my friend convinced me to shoot a short video featuring my car for his YouTube channel. I'll link it whenever they post it up.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Been spending the past few days working out this issue. It's all making me want the excessive intake manifold again. But I'm not paying retail, that's for sure. I'll wait until a used one pops up. That wouldn't fix the problem, but it'll make me happy in other ways. Lol
And just to rule it out, I got another new radiator cap. While I was fiddling with that I realized I might have been screwing the cap on too tight. I was putting pressure down on the cap while screwing so it would go up over the "stops". If I didn't do that it just seemed way too loose. Anyway, I ran it with the cap where I think its supposed to be and it held fine. Now I've done a proper bleed on the system and I'll fire it up later to see how it does.

Re: The "Retired" 510
I found it! Well I found one, but only one. It's the freaking bleeder bolt! I'm going to tap it to the next size up because the threads are looking extremely unhealthy. What in the hell, why did that take so long?

Re: The "Retired" 510
I got all geared up to tap NPT threads this morning, but when I was getting ready I noticed that the hole had a crack in it. Wow, lol. I won't be getting to this until I find a replacement upper intake manifold. Yay, I get to take that off again. This time I'll be very thorough in my deletes, before I install it.
Tomorrow I'm leaving again for a couple more months. I should be back mid December or so. Then I'll have plenty of time to take care of this. Was it Indy510 that did the major cleanup and polishing of the KA intake manifold?Anyway, I'm gonna go find that and take another look.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Polishing the intake was way too much work. I had to hide all my threads and photos after the bringatrailer nightmare, but you can see a couple photos of it here: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-datsun-710/

Yea, Indys thread is in a deep deep hidden part of the forum. If you ask kindly, I can search through the drudge...

Re: The "Retired" 510
Good bye til now. Lol
I'm back and I'm ready to get some work done on the car.
First I need to get a replacement upper intake manifold. One of these dry days I'll get out to pick and pull for it.
Then I'd like to find steering knuckles with a 14mm ball joint stud hole so I can replace the ball joints with the new ones I have.
And one last thing for my little wish list. Replace the rear subframe bushings. I have poly ones, but think I'll hold out a little longer for rubber ones.
And of course there will be tons of little stuff to do along the way.
