Wow , thank you very much for all that info. It’s a lot to digest. It’s quiet where we’re trying to move to , and it’s something I’ve always wanted to explore a bit more. Full well knowing I asked you an vague unspecific question. Again really appreciate it wayno !

I was wrong about the telescope rating site name it was not rating matrix, it is "telescope ranking matrix", here is a link, but it only ranks reflectors.
https://www.scopereviews.com/matrix.html

I have the white tube model though, I don't use this telescope anymore but it worked alright, it had a very heavy mount, here is what the list said about them.
Most old Edmunds (red-tubed models preferable to white-tubed ones)

I guess I want to be able to see details of what I am looking at, there is this DSO(deep sky object) called the "great globular cluster", it looks like a smudge, but what it really is is hundreds and hundreds of small stars clumped together so close that it looks like a smudge, on good nights in my backyard I can see them as individual stars except for the center which still looks like a smudge, even the astronomy books show/describe them as smudges as it takes a better scope and good conditions to see them any other way, some globular clusters have millions of stars in them, Andromada is billions?? of stars(a galaxy) that looks like wide flat smudge.

Refractors are easy to use and don't need to cool down a couple hours before using them if kept inside like reflectors do, but I keep my reflectors in my very dry shed, but even that is too hot during the summer, but a refractor is never going to give one the view my 16" reflector telescope gives me unless it is huge(10" round and 20' long), sometimes a huge refractor shows up on Craigslist but they want $50,000 plus for them and they need a dome to be kept in.

Most big scopes are reflectors kept in domes on top of mountains anymore managed by computers and it is outside temperature(cold) in the domes otherwise heat coming off the mirror/mirrors distorts the view like heat coming off the ground on a desert hiway, but the heat is coming off the mirror, fans can blow the heat off/away but they make a telescope like mine vibrate which distorts the view so I don't use my fan on my scopes that have fans, my 16" does not have a fan.

Well I tried but cannot figure out how to download photos into this computer, it only has one USB port and that is used for the remote mouse(wireless) that I use, when I remove that from the USB port to use the USB adapter for SD cards the mouse will not move using the finger pad, the pad used to work with my finger but not anymore.
I expect there is likely an adapter that expands that to two ports or another adapter to use one of the other ports for the SD card in this laptop(ASUS ZenBook 14).
I will likely go to where I bought this laptop(BestBuy) with my camera and have them tell me what to buy and show me how it works if I can remember in the next few days, until then no photos so I will not likely even post to any of my threads except this one.
The X-Mas lights are up, another insane year for me and lights.

It is pain but I figured out the photos(U320 thread) and I enabled the finger pad by pushing the top row of buttons till I found the correct one, I will still see if I can find/buy an adapter for one of the other ports as using the touch pad slows me way down.
It appears to have been another step forward for me.

I bought this today as it was too cheap to pass up, I did not really need another one, it has a transmission lift assembly piece I have never seen before, I guess that is made to use with a vehicle lift, useless to me, this air jack has every piece it came with, and the rubber pads still have the "GRAY" emblem on them, it appears to work fine although I have not tried to lift any weight with it yet.

The guy got a booster shot yesterday, he said he felt bad, I stayed as far away from him as I could, I hope I don't get sick.

You can’t get the flu from someone that got a flu shot.

Booster shot shouldn’t be different.

So far I feel fine so I did not catch anything from the guy, but I stayed as far as possible away from him.

And I caught something that people told me was Covid19 from a vaccinated person, and I know that I got it from her, when I told her I got it from her she did not even blink, I suspect others got it from her also and they also told her.

The reason I stay away from people that recently got a flu shot is because they are going to a place and seeing people that got flu shots, these doctors and nurses see lots and lots of sick people and then give it to the people that come in later.

I Dred going to my sister's house anymore, they are all vaxed up and 4 days after being around them my ear drums fill up with liquid, and it happens every time I go over there, every freaking time.

I hate that for you. At least you’re being careful with your health. I didn’t occur to me the fact of people giving vaccines could be transmitting sickness. Sounds like you’re doing it right.

Congrats on the jack. I’ve looked off and on around here for one and continue coming up empty handed.

I have 2 air jacks I should sell but you are too far away, one is an older style(1950s??) that can be seen in my U320 thread in some of the photos(short red one), and one is made to lift big trucks, it is too big to get under any of my vehicles now that I lowered them, it would be good for a full size 4wd truck.

So yesterday I went out in the garage to unplug the Christmas lights and it smelt funny, I looked all around for a fire but found nothing, I even looked under the house, this evening I went out in the garage to unplug the lights(10pm) and it smelt funny again, I checked all the extension cords and none were hot at the plug, well one cord is one of them cords that winds up in a housing that hangs from the ceiling, I touched the housing and it was warm, I had already unplugged the wire from the Christmas lights so I started pulling the cord out of the housing and it got hotter and hotter the more I pulled out, about half way I had to get a glove as it was too hot to handle anymore, I am lucky I did not have a fire.

I only started using that extension cord because the 3 way plug was getting warm from another source, so I thought spread the draw out, well I guess that cord I used is not meant to use with even a medium load or it could be that the cord wound up like that just builds more heat up as constant draw continues, it is cold now that an hour and a half has past, but the cord outer housing/cover sort of melted, it did not melt to the point where it looks melted, but the cover is not smooth anymore, it has held the wound up shape where the cord was against the cord, good thing I did not ever leave the house with the Christmas lights on.

I have always liked that cord because it was easy to put it back into its housing, spring wound like a tape measure, but I guess I should not use it except for a short period of time or pull it out of its housing so it can stay cool, I am so lucky I did not have a fire.

I always feel the cords when I set my Christmas lights up to make sure they are not getting warm, but I only started using that cord a couple days ago because the 3 way was slightly warm, I never thought about feeling the housing, I am pulling power from 3 different breakers, 4 different ones with that ceiling cord I started using a couple days ago, I am back to 3 sources again, but that 3 way did not get hot, just warm, I will figure something else out, mental note, don't use wind up cords when wound up.

Wow, glad you caught that. I have one of those retractable chords in my shop next to the roll-up door. I don't use it very often because it's got a built in 10A circuit breaker that seems to trip for all but the lightest loads. The circuit that it's plugged into is 20A. Fire makes me nervous because, even though the fire station is only about 2 miles away, it's primarily volunteer. If my house or shop catches on fire, I figure I'm on my own for probably 20 minutes.

Christmas lights look great. Snow makes it even more festive.

I took the Xmas lights down on the 2nd and the tree on the 3rd because it was dry, when I bag all strings except icicle lights and large bulb strings it is necessary for them to be dry otherwise the bags condense inside and there is water in the bag in hardly any time at all.

I also bought a used double car garage door yesterday, it took 3 hours to remove everything including the rails, automatic garage door opener, and associated wiring, I did all of it myself including loading it on the work truck in the pouring rain.

Today I took my wood door apart, some of it fell apart, I then put the new to me door together in place using the existing hardware, somehow I got that top section up there and in position all by myself, only the second from the top fell over (hinges were connected) and hit me in the head because of a gust of wind, it took 4 hours to put it together, it then took a couple hours to try and get it to operate smoothly, basically it was too tight and hitting the wall opening edges on the inside, I took around a 4 hour break made dinner and watched a movie, I then went out and fixed it in half an hour, when I turn on all the lights and went outside, I can see no light except at the bottom center where the concrete is low in the middle, I got lucky and tightened the springs to the perfect tension the first time, I know this because I loosened them 1 turn and had to put it back the way it was doing it a half turn at a time and testing it.

This door does not have any windows like my wood door had, the two windows had a defuser stick on covering on them that I could just see outside on the edge where the covering shrunk away from the edges over the years, I will need to get used to not being able to see outside when I hear a noise or think a vehicle has stopped in front of my house, I was considering a peep hole like doors have but it is not on the top 10 list.

I forgot to take any photos of before, and it is dark out now, I will take a photo of the inside and outside tomorrow, unfortunately it is not the color of my house on the outside so I will have to paint it, but it needs to be warmer and dry to do that.

Well done ! How large is your door ? Wouldn’t be a bad time to get a spare spring(s). The threshold glue down seal is an option(could help) if that gap in the center truly bothers ya.

The door is 16' X 7', the wood door had 5 sections, this metal door has 4 sections, it is a lot cleaner looking than the wood door, I suspect in th U320 thread there are photos in the background of the wood garage door, I do not have any on this laptop computer.

I worked on the Mini today, I uncovered it and got it started yesterday but it ran like crap and would not idle, it was not drivable.

I debated on what the issue was, the fuel in it is a few years old, but it is non ethanol fuel so it should not spoil, especially with a full tank, I thought maybe the fuel evaporated and clogged up the idle circuit, but the engine sounded terrible, it did not rev properly and sounded like it was missing which got me thinking about a stuck valve, but in the end, I decided it was likely that smog carb so I decided to remove it.

It was kinda hard to remove the carb without removing the intake manifold, but I got it off with a lot of grumbling and I was seriously concerned about how I was going to get it back on there as my fat fingers are too big to get in the tight spots between the carb and firewall, you see the carb is pointed right at the firewall as the engine is in there sideways.

Anyway, once it was off I looked at it for a while, the bolt pattern looked a lot like my U20 Datsun Roadster SUs, I replaced the Roadster carbs with new ones from Z therapy several years ago and put the old ones on the shelf, like all these SUs the rear SU seems to always go bad before the front SU which is lucky or me as the front SU has the vacuum advance, anyway the bolt pattern and the hole were the same size and that Roadster carb slid right on like it was made for it, I hesitated for a moment and looked at the Mini carb, it was a smog carb with the bowl on the bottom, I had never had one of these apart before, I thought this one carb would likely set me back hundreds of dollars, I went for it and hoped the SU was good and would work on a 1250cc engine as the U20 is 2000cc so each carb is made for 1000cc, but I have 1600cc L16 carbs on my 2300cc work truck engine, hmmmm .

I installed the SU carb on the engine intake manifold which was easy compared to removing that smog carb, the vacuum advance just plugged right on, I had to make a choke cable connection but the cable end had frayed so I got out my soldering equipment and soldered the end of the cable together and it works great, I have a container of carb stuff on the shelf and I found what I needed to make an arm for the SU throttle on the same side as the return spring arm, I was able to make the stock throttle cable assembly work on the SU also and that cable end was fine.

I started it and had fuel spraying everywhere, I had to completely redo what I had put together, I then tried again and it started right up with the choke pulled on, now I poured a little gas down the slightly tilted up carb, so I expected it to briefly run but this engine never even missed, I eased in the choke and it kept on running, I had turned in the idle screw to keep it running if it started, I turn out the idle screw till it sounded alright and I revved it, it sounded great and it had never started this easily, I mean it has never started this easy since owning it, normally I pull the choke on and when it starts it revs up to over 3000rpms and if I push in the choke even half way it dies, this happened over and over until it would idle just below 2000rpms, then after a minute or two I could get it to idle ay somewhere around 1200rpms, this engine was idling way below 1000rpms, I never looked at the tach to see where it was idling when I was happy.
I am waiting till tomorrow when it is cold to see how easy it stars before telling myself I did a good job.

The neighbor came over and looked at the Mini, he said he wanted to buy it and I told him I was going to sell it, I even told him how much I bought it for and he did not blink, maybe it is sold, but I am going to clean it up first and drive it before selling it, I even said when the other neighbor was there also that this vehicle was the most undependable vehicle I ever owned, he still is interested but he had to go home as he was the parent that was supposed to be watching the kids at that time.

No photos because my hands were greasy from working on the Mini, maybe tomorrow, he was interested in the U320 also but preferred the Mini, he even got in behind the wheel, I said fine because he appeared clean.

Here are the photos of the Roadster carb on the Mini.

Image

Image

Here you can see the throttle arm I made.

I have not driven the Mini yet with this carb, it is the front carb of 2 carbs made for a 2000cc engine, I checked the idle this afternoon/evening, it will not idle below 500rpms unless I push down on the idle adjustment screw, then if I rev it it is back to the higher 600rpm, but it sounds best at 600rpms so that is just fine, it acts weird when I pull the choke on all the way, it starts right away but appears to try to flood out right away, it seems like there is no middle ground, I have yet to get used to how to adjust the choke, seems like I am always dirty and cannot get in it as it has white seats, the choke is pulled on while the steering wheel is taking my weight, for such a small car it has a large interior, but I would not want to be in the back seat for long, not a lot of room back there for an adults legs, kids would fit fine.

I have had an issue for a while now and thought I would post it in this thread

I have had to deal with this sleeping issue/getting to sleep issue, I have had this terrinble part of the issue for several months, I have laid in bed all night and cannot get to sleep, the same side effects I had when on Rosuvastatin which is a Statin drug for cholesterol, I have been trying to figure out what has been causing it for several months, I quit eating/drinking everything I have put in my body at some point without any change including getting my drinking water from a well, I thought about it very hard a few weeks ago, what have I not stopped eating/drinking/using, I finally figured it out I think as I have stopped using everything except Ibuprofen, low dose aspirin, Benidril/allergy meds, and one other thing.

I was at the dentist having my teeth cleaned and I mentioned this sleep issue and what I had done, I had stopped using tooth paste and was just brushing with water and I told her I think that was the issue with sleep(I was apologizing for not using tooth paste), she asked me what tooth paste I used, I told her that several months ago I bought Crest because they were out of Aquafresh and she made a face and said something about what was in Crest, well I can say as of a couple days ago for the first time in decades I actually slept all night without waking up and when I did wake up I felt good, for 2 days now when I have woke up I have felt good and not tired just wanting to roll over and go back to sleep, now I am worried about using toothpaste as what is in it that was keeping me awake all night and making me wake up 10+ times a night for decades, I would lay there sleepless only getting a few hours sleep for 2/3 nights in a row and then finally fall asleep from shear exhaustion only to have the cycle start all over again the next night and it had been going on for months, I have slept good two nights in a row now, as with that statin it took a few weeks to get whatever is in it out of my system, I am going to enjoy getting sleep for a while and when I know for sure and don't get back into that cycle I will try the Aquafresh again and hope the cycle does not start all over again.

I guess the reason I posted this is because if any of you don't sleep good, maybe it could be the tooth paste your using.

Interesting. I've always been a Crest kid. Never would have guessed that. My sleep patterns seem to disrupt about ever 3 months. I sleep like shit for a couple weeks, then snap out of it. I'm weening off of sugar and caffeine right now and haven't hit a good rhythm yet.

You're a bit younger than my dad but he said he sleeps less as he gets older. My grandma told me the same thing when I was a kid. Through her 80s she only slept 3-4 hours per night and was super sharp. Maybe you're just getting to a point where you don't need 8 hours anymore.

This is not an age thing, this came on fast, I just did not notice it started right after I bought that tube of Crest.
