My dad decided to replace the front brake hoses due to a dragging caliper. Once it was in the air he found that one of the rear cylinders was leaking. Went and picked up the cylinders and pulled the drums to find that all 4 shoes were coming unbonded. No one he called had them on the shelf so it'll just sit until he finds some.
Image
Once the brakes are sorted out it will get a new set of tires and a good cleaning. Then it's on the market.

It probably looked okay on the outside. They deteriorate and swell shut over time. Sometimes they'll have a "flap" come loose inside that will allow fluid to move one way but not the other. Not too surprising considering it's 40 years old (just like most of our cars). Something to think about.

Didn't event think about M&M. Nick might have had some but it was after 6 when he got to that point. He likes shopping at Discount anyway so he'll just grab a set tomorrow morning. No big deal.

Time to mop up 3 projects...
First, my dad's Riv. It got new shocks and tires after the brakes were done. My brother and I also talked him in to ditching the Mustang hub caps and repainting the rims. Stock seems to sell better in the VW buses. I never got a chance to get pics before it left so these were swiped from his CL ad.

Image
The Bricklin is also done. It got new tires too. I spent hours and hours getting the doors to work right. Ended up replacing the compressor, controller, regulator, both cylinders (rams), rebuilt all 4 solenoids, replaced the driver's door popper, replaced the wiring on the driver's side, and added 2 relays. It cleaned up pretty well for a car that's been parked for 20 years. He put 25-30 miles on it running over Corn pass, Skyline, and Newberry Rd. Says it runs and handles great. Gets lots of attention everywhere it goes. More CL pics.

Last up is the Fierro. It's all together and has been to the upholstery shop. He's actually been driving it around pretty regularly. Again, says it gets lots of attention. If it doesn't sell this weekend it's coming back here for new pushrod tubes to cure an oil leak. Hopefully that can be someone else's problem.

My brother has been detailing his Riviera too. He's got the bumpers all straightened and ready for new paint. The bus was repainted the original color about 20 years ago but it's really oxidized. This is the before...
Image
This side has been buffed...
Image
He still has a lot of work to do and these bring more money during summer camping season. Tick tock.

My brother's Riv is all gutted for cleaning. You can see the bumpers and wheels are prepped for paint.

He spent a couple hours yesterday trying to de-hippy the wiring in the engine bay. When I got off work I put in a couple hours too. Lots of scotch-lock sins to be undone. At this point everything is cleaned up and working as it should except for the brake lights.

Thanks man.

I mounted up another set of (used) tires for him after work today. He still has 2-3 solid work days to go. Planning to have it at PIR/Beaches next Wednesday with a for sale sign in it. I'll post up some new pics once we get the bumpers mounted.

Thanks for watching.

My dad's red and black bus sold for full price to the first guy that came out to look at it.

My brother's bus got finished last night and he posted the ad this morning. Says he's got a couple good leads. Hopes to have it gone by the weekend. Here's the finished product...

My biggest problem is the patience too. My brother has it and I don't. This was supposed to be a quick clean and buff. He ended up pulling everything out of the interior for cleaning and detailing. He also removed all the lights and trim in order to get a better outcome on the paint refinishing and to clean all the bezels and stuff. He even pulled the front portion of the top in order to pressure wash the roof and redo some loose rivets on the cargo bars. You'd have to be 9 feet tall to even notice that. It always starts out simple but he just can't leave well enough alone.

Another bus sold! He just set a new compound record. Sold in 10 hours for full asking price. Profit: $8,000.

Well played, little brother.

My brother spotted my old '36 Chevy at a car show today and sent me this shot. No other details yet. Lookin pretty rough though. It's obviously spent some winters outside. Pinstripe flames, wheels and engine stuff are the obvious changes. Grille is beat and the door handle is missing.
Image

Since a new addition was needed, i picked up this '92 S-10. Not too pretty right now. We'll work on that  . It's a 4cyl, 5spd, one owner, 97K, and really straight. Needs a fuel pump. I picked it up for $200 and plan to flip it. Not a ton of potential profit but still worth the effort. Actually, it's begging for a nice set of wheels and a V8 swap. Just towed it home today so I'll get started tomorrow. Planning a trip to Pick-N-Pull in the morning for 1/2-off sale.

Installed the new fuel pump and wrecking yard alternator. Then I scrubbed the rust off the wheels, stripped and painted the center caps, and cleaned the tires. The it went outside to get washed.
Image
Then drove it to the gas station for some fresh fuel. Runs and drives great!
