Kylezone's 72 s30
Kylezone's 72 s30
figured it was about time i started a thread for ma Z
its a 1972 240z. when i got it it came with a completely stock motor, except for an el dizzy. threw on new cap/rotor/wires/plugs, runs like a top.
the bad; ... everything else
-Passenger floor is rusty as all get-out (driver side possibly salvageable)
-windshield cracked
-all ruber is dead
-back hatch is rusted out
-rear breaks don't work
-practically nothing in the interior is salvageable except steering wheel and guages.
-suspension bushings are... not great.
-fenders are both dented and badly repaird.
- etc...
Digging into the car it looks like there were three distinct previous owners,
1. the cool guy. this guy restored it (more or less) did some paint/body work, upgraded the sway bars and springs, and possibly threw on the set of Rikens
2. the not so cool guy. This guy got its some time after it was restored and decided to paint everyting maroon (everything as in emblems bumpers window frames...patches of rust...) only masked off windows and lights. and didnt take anything apart to paint.
3. the guy i bought it from, basically started tearing it down a little bit and got some of the paint removal started but lost interest.
now I own it and ive been tearing it down as much as i possibly can, killing all the rust, stripping it to bare metal, fixing the badly done body work and collecting lots of new parts.
here it is when I got it.
than i started getting the paint off and covering up the bare metal as i went
Work Equip 01s happened
than I took it off the road and things started getting serious
lots of bad rust. luckily tho most of the bad stuff is on easily replacable pannels
lots of badly done body work
*note the thickness of the bondo around the marker light
labor day was 50% off day at Pick n' Pull!!!! heck yah son! grabbed a hatch and a dash with a plastic cap off of a 260 along with a few misc trim things.
hatch before paint
after
Picked up a pair of seats from a 240 a couple of days ago
from left to right; seat that came with the car/ seat from the junkyard / junkyard seat cleaned up!! new ones dont match, but i dont really care.
some of my stockpile...
the past few days ive been working on fenders. got them both pulled off.... not an easy task, most of the bolts sheared lol. fun times.
cleaned and primed
masked
Bedlinered
Other than that ive been burning off old bondo and removing fibreglass patches, hammering out dents, removing rust, and re-aplying bondo (tho significantly less than PO #1 did) and gathering parts, I now have a passenger floor pan ready to weld in =)
BOOM! build thread officially started!

Re: Kylezone's 72 s30
got mah steel
and heres the fenders
driver side wasnt too bad and it will probably be in paint tonight, and it has undercoat on the inside.
passenger side, not so great, big ol nasty fibreglas patch, someone drilled out the front corner for some reason or another?? i assume to pull the dent. ive just been hammering it out. its looking pretty good.

Re: Kylezone's 72 s30
lolz i wish, things are workin tho, after i got off work tonight i went and grabbed Lacaeon's engine hoist and one of his messed up wheels to use as an engine stand lol. so engine could possibly be out tomorrow????? we shal see. the plan is to get the car stripped down so we can tilt it up on the side and get access to the passenger side floorpan/framerail and weld in some new stuff. hopefully all that will be done within a couple of weekends. and i can get it in paint and get it all more or less put back together before school starts. fingers crossed!

Re: Kylezone's 72 s30
yah! always fun times hangin out at your gerage! i think ill probably make it to blue lake.
Re: Kylezone's 72 s30
quick update, engine is out!! didnt get a whole lot of pics unfortunately, thats my buddy Seth in the pic, he drives a 79 vw bus. never tried this by myself before, but ive pulled enough motors with lacaeon that I felt confidant enough to do it. Labeled things as i removed them, took a couple of refference photos, etc. hopefully things keep moving this fast! id like to have it back on the road in about a month, but.... we'll see.
Re: Kylezone's 72 s30
not a whole lot got done today unfortunately, cleaned up the engine, got started cleaning the engine bay, got some new hardware for the fenders and a couple taps. did a little body work. driver side fender is now in paint =) it still needs some work tho, its nowhere near perfect, but at least i can throw its good enough to put on the car for now.

Re: Kylezone's 72 s30
Its a little more than tacked in at current.
I started having issues with the rust at the top. Insta blow through at any power level. Probably going to need another patch panel.
