Instrument Panel/dash Cluster Voltage Regulator (Fuel/temp)

#1

Post by Gray »

Sorry no longer available! I'll update if I do another run of these.

Instrument panel voltage regulator. Will fit 68-69 510. Will also fit 311/411/520/521.

Sold state part that replaces the mechanical voltage regulator for the fuel and temp gauges. So if you have a roadster or early pickup or 510 with flaky or misreading temp and fuel gauges this may be a part to replace.

Direct plug in. Red wire is 12V+ in. White wire is 9V+ out to gauges. Ring terminal is 12V- (ground) and screws to the back of the gauge cluster.

$15 shipped in the US. Paypal address is: dguy210(at)gmail(dot)com

The original part looks like a small metal box on the back of the cluster (68 510).

From the side you can see the male spade connectors and ring terminal (right of photo).

How the replacement part plugs in. This can be replaced on the 510 without pulling the dash or cluster. I don't know for the roadster or pickups if this is also true but probably.

On the left is the old part on the right is the new one plugged in. Leads are left a bit long to make it easier to plug in to the dash cluster without pulling the cluster.

Note: this is also posted on Ratsun, but due to the dumbass way the classifieds work no one ever sees it.

Hi, I would like to order one to be used on my 1967.5 datsun roadster 1600. Stock is a bi metallic puting out an average pulsating 8 volts.
Does it sound like it will work?

Did you come up with this fix yourself? Pretty ingenious.

Yes it should work, the 65-67.5 stock regulator has a slightly different mounting from the 510 pictured but is electrically identical. I believe your current regulator should look like the one below.

It is based on a how-to someone posted a long time ago, I cleaned up the design and with Ranman72's help did some beta testing. He's been running one in his 510 for a while now.

See the rectangular can on the right above the speedo housing on your instrument cluster in your photo, that is your voltage regulator for your gauges.

Please note, it appears the 510 1969 RHD KMh instrument cluster may not use this voltage regulator. See the pics below, the circuit on the back looks very similar as does the cluster itself, but the mounting point for the voltage regulator is not present. If anyone has any other info on this I'd be interested to know. This cluster is a JDM KMh cluster so it may have other differences too.

See the previous post, it would normally use one of the contacts on the back of the brown cover there (fuel gauge). I'm wondering if this was a late model thing which had it built into the fuel gauge as on some of the other models.
