First i'd like to introduce myself. My name is Carlos, and I am in love with Datsuns. The 510 was the car that started it all. Like a high school sweetheart, I just couldn't stop thinking about it. And actually because of a high school sweetheart I ended up neglecting it for several months. I learned not to do that again haha. Anyways, this car taught me everything I know today. Not just about cars, but about life too. Patience, Perseverance, Responsibility and such. I'm kind of different than other car owners, because this is my first project, i'm beyond attached to this car. Its the first thing I check up in the morning, and the last thing on my mind as I go to sleep. I'm not kidding, I'll never part with it. As you'll later find out, my car gets hit.. and I was devastated to say the least. But, like I said, this car taught me something. She didn't give up on me in all these years of service, WHY should I give up on her? Well anyways, This is the life long project that will never end. I'm always going to try to make it faster, smoother and more agile. One day, I'll stop updating this thread.. Thats the day she reaches her purest form...

I transferred all my posts from another Forum, sorry. Also, the ignore the music videos at the end. Theyre place holders. Feel free to listen to the songs, im passionate about music too. lol.

Bear with me, I have to back track the last 2 years of progress.

Since my dad owns a towing company, he often times buys "scrap" cars for relatively cheap. one day a guy called my dad about a '72 Datsun 510.
I flipped. $75 in guys hand, 510 in mine. every single penny was worth it. it had MINIMAL surface rust/ body damage. just 2 dings one in the front under the grill and one on the rear bumper.
ever since that day, I fell in love with everything Datsun.

yea only two things are stopping me from installing my engine and getting it running, finding all the hardware (bolts, screws, nuts, etc) and time.

yea i really wanted to keep it white, i wanted to keep it in original form with the dings and rust, it sorta had its personality, but my dad insisted on painting it. my next Datsun projects are going to retain its original body/color

Since i'm ALMOST done with my car, i think i should have list of my goals and cross them off as i go.

i think the toughest thing im going to have to do right now is put the gas tank in without cracking that plastic piece.
Note that i include long term goals i intend to do within 2 years

1. Moar lower
2. Carpet + interior
3. Convert to stick
4. get a good sound system without cutting holes or annihilating the interior, NO 15 inch subs for me, ok maybe one lol
5. Rebuild L16 bore to L18, and Turbo + EFI (Yes, i have the block)

i'll add more goals as they come. right now i have a basic understanding of what to do with the engine to make it L18ET
Oh and the L20b BARELY cleared the hood like maybe a eighth of an inch

After a hectic day at school... this put the biggest smile on my face, even though it took a bit of work to get it started the sound of a Unmuffled L20B brings joy

Finally gave my seat to the upholstery shop, he said it should be done by Wed!!!!
Also bled my clutch system, works fine noaw!!!
As for the 510....
not much progress :crying: just moar problems
Heater core leak, and noaw NO brake pressure, must be a air leak somewhere.
Oh and it doesn't want to stay running for more than 2 seconds.. i think it ran out of gas but fuel gauge says its full...
I'm gonna drive the truck before I drive my dime. Might as well fix everything I had planned to fix down the road.

To do list:
Brakes
Moar lower
Passenger seat
Fix a list of wiring issues including charge light staying on, car not turning off...
which also reminds me i still have to pull the Z22 out of the 200SX
Get to fucking work on these things^
I Suck.
