I still can't believe the amount of dirt that was lodged in there. No wonder so much rust. And around the rear too.510freak wrote:Pretty common area to be rusted(especially up here,if they are not its a gold mine here)

The good thing is that the floorboards and frame-rails are really solid.
I love driving it, and I get a lot of compliments even the state she is in.

Re: Meet Buttercups aka Reeses
The box area does accumulate alot of dirt over the years, usually the first area I hit with a pressure washer.
Thats great the floors and rails are solid.
They are a blast to drive Kenny, been enjoying the 510s for 25 plus years(when I say that I feel old )

Re: Meet Buttercups aka Reeses
Bcups is back!!! The guy did a great job at the shop
Glad I didn't attempt this one, even he said it was a pain in the ass. He did mention that if I wanted to sell it, well you know.
Now she's getting some new shoes
Glad to have her home!
Now to get on that rear end situation, take off the hideous homemade seat belt thingies and get it one color.

Re: Meet Buttercups aka Reeses
Haven't got much done this week, busy busy. I did have time to get some new meat's on
I did find time to POR15 my new METAL. And hit the wheel wells with some rubberized undercoating.
The 50 series tires don't have any clearance issues.
Can you believe the person selling that hardbody wanted seven grand? wow.

Re: Meet Buttercups aka Reeses
Thanks lou, gotta find centercaps for the rims now. I really want a set of Rotas now.
Here's to you guys!!!
So I may have found the answer for the rest of the rust repair in wheel well area, I don't really want to fiberglass this. I like METAL!!!
Here's the rest of the problem areas
So I was stumbling through the JY the other day and saw this
I napped some interior parts, I only had me pocket tool. Hopefully they will let me cut out the area I need. I will go by and talk more tomorrow.

Re: Meet Buttercups aka Reeses
Nice,Weed beer(from weed?)
And stickers
in a pinch you can use the leftovers of front fenders to make the dogleg portion(the rusted area in pic)
the arch is the same(switch left to right, right to left)if they dont want to cut this out for you Kenny

I was wondering about the front fender thing. It sounded like they wanted to charge me for a whole quarter of the car. I really don't want to have to saw that thing in half.

Re: Meet Buttercups aka Reeses
Sweet!
It can be done, just take the arch from the left front fender, and put it on the right rear, a bit of metal massaging and you can have a dogleg, and from he looks of it,the guy that did the metal work on the inner fender of the goon,it will be done nicely.

I'm such a noob. I will check out the front fender thing.
The guy from the shop does a great job, I'll be honest my welds are functional, but not pretty.

Re: Meet Buttercups aka Reeses
I got off work today and picked up a buddy's Dewalt sawzall (battery ) That thing is ruthless.
Then went to pnp and cut the rust repair areas out!
Also picked up some Thule roof racks this week on CL for cheap. I lost a pad on one.
That should take care of the major rust areas. The rest can be sanded, etc.
For some reason my drivers door won't shut. This happened on my hardbody occasionally, on it you could rotate the latch and it would fix it. Not working on the g00n.
