So banner, H%WAGON, and i tore into the head today. #2 intake and exhaust valve were both bent, intake being the worst. Would not come out by hand. Pounded on it and it came out, cracking the guide in the process. Luckily I can have a new one pressed in at the machinist for $15. Ordered some gaskets and a new guide. Going to machinist tomorrow. If everything goes to plan, should have it running again by Sunday

Valve seat that we thought was the issue....valve had a slight tweek...but came out of the guide no problem.

Pic that Derek posted was after trying to push Intake valve out on cylinder#2 stem was bent at the top....causing guide to crack.

2 newer valves going in that cylinder and all others double checked for straightness.
Will lapp them also.

Kinda odd #3 cylinder had the lower compression number but, this motor is so new, things could change a bit.

One more thing, when we had the spring off that bent valve we could not push valve open to normal position, would bind up. That would causing some major slapping action when you turn up the RPM's

Exhaust valve seat had a bunch of crap behind it...you can see my scrape marks getting it out.

How did the old valve seal look?

So what's the history on the head? I went back and skimmed a few pages back but didn't see much. Just looked like you cleaned up a used W58 and ran it. Was it ever really right? With that deep dish in the pistons I kind of doubt that any damage was caused by your bottom end. I'd guess it was damaged before you even installed it. Just got more noticeable as you ran it.

edit: I read W58 and typed W53.

I lost a timing belt once in a 1979 mustang 2, they did not think any valves were hit, so I told them to replace the belt and call it good, about 3 months later I developed a back fire out the carb on one of the cylinders 300 miles from home, I had to remove the plug wire on that cylinder to get it home, I drove it that way for a while(3 cyl.), as I had no money, when the weather got better, I started driving my motorcycle.
A valve had been hit, and likely had bent it/cracked it, I was not able to tell it had an issue till it started back firing.

Well yea, I didn't catch that the w58 was actually on that motor when he got it, I thought he had sourced the head separately. Anyways I knew better and should have at least pulled the valves and checked for straightness.

The valve was bent and sticking, the bend was componding I think. Untill it got as bad as it is now. Or was when we pushed it out.
The pistons hit the valves on the last motor, not this one.

I picked that head up with the last b210 I got, ii was told "it was running on the L motor in the b210. But when I got there it was just chilling in the back of the car so who knows. Dude was a tweeker

Ok, Derek picked up the extra valves today and took them to the machine shop in case others were bent, which was the case but very small amount.
All the spares were good so they used those and re-surfaced them and the seats.
Then we got to assemble.

To hot tank,grind valves & seats, and install new guide...$50. That made me happy since I just spent a ton of money putting the rest of the motor together
