Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
I'll clean the shit out of it.. gotta get the wheels moving soon. Going to pressure wash the hell out of the truck tomorrow before I put stuff in.
Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Got the oil pan off the l20b and pick up.
Oh so the z22 dip stick is on the ddriver side of the block.
Do I use the z22 tube still? With the l20b dipstick?
The dipstick is higher up on the z22 than the l20b as well.

No...
Look at your Z22 block again. I should have a spot in the same location as the L20b block does for a dipstick. Drill that. Put dipstick there. Use L20b tube and stick, as you are using the L20b pan.

So I'm about to set my ring gap.
I'm following the "how to modify your datsun"
It says the gap should be set About 0.004" times the bore in inches. So doing the math the top ring gap should be set at about 0.014. The book also says the second gap should be set 0.002 less then the top ring, do to it being cooler. This means i set the second ring gap to 0.012 right?

89mm head gasket from datsunpartsllc.com came today!
Now brass freeze plugs and I'll be putting the block in.
The NPR piston rings are gapped to big.. The second ring is at 0.020.. wtf... All of them. Number one was pretty set at 14 thous, Well three of them were 14 the last one was 17 thous... I don't get it.. fucking says quality guaranteed on the box...

Laecaon, thank you .. I don't like dealing with tiny numbers. I guess I knew where to set the ring gap but not really the lowest it could be.. seemed 14 for the top was pretty clear so when I putt them in the bore and they were already 14 I was stoked.
The book says the second ring should be 2 thous less then the top.. I've seen a few things say the middle needs to be around 17.. wouldn't that make the second ring .012?

Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
Found what I needed to find on a pdf from NPR site...
"NPR manufacturers each piston ring gap with the correct OEM specification for each individual engine. There is no need, nor do we recommend that you alter them in anyway as this might void our warranty. Also note these end gaps are set at exact bore dimensions"
Lots of reading to find that. Even tho I figured such I really didn't want to take any chances. Ha. I'll put these fucks in now that my mind isn't being dumb and over thinking shit.

Re: soon to be LZ2.3 521 :)
He had said he's used this gasket on an lz2.3 build... don't know how those blocks turned out down the road but the gasket laps into the bore no matter how straight I make it.
If I get one or two cylinders aligned ehh, kinda to my liking it still laps into the bore on the edges because it's oval makes things... stupid.. ha. The other cylinders it also laps into the bore just a little more then the other two..
I'll upload some pictures.
