Found some cool mirrors in a barn the other day. Got them mounted and took off the damn Dumbo mirrors. Now I can see how lovely my doors are. I have some welding to do.
On the up side, I'm in the process of putting a new roof on the house and then A SHOP GOES UP! Cut my big ass maple tree down a couple weeks ago. A friend with a track hoe is going to come over to dig out the stump and rough in my lab base as soon as I'm ready.

24'x30x12' Eves. I have waited a long time to get one. My business better do well next year.

I'm not planning anything real fancy, it's one of those car port deals with sides. Planning to pour a full slab with water, sewer and power stub outs for future hookup. I looked at my neighbors after the snow we had this last winter and it did great. I'll have to wait till next year, hopefully, to insulate it.

When it goes up, you'll know, trust me. http://www.carportsandmore.com/has what I'm doing on their home screen. The red one is pretty much it, just move the doors to the side with the man door.

Not much to update really. New roof is just about done. I have a buddy coming over tomorrow to dig my maple tree stump out of my back yard and make it nice and level. Still haven't found someone to do the slab finish work. I know someone that is a great concrete finisher, but, the asshole knows what I want and won't answer his phone. Time to stop by with some beer and talk. Haaahahahahahaa

No......I had to put a roof on the house. Damn it anyway!

Been working on the truck though. Been cleaning ports on a U67. It's in the machine shop right now getting new guides and a valve job. Also putting in a Oregon Cam Grindings regrind. .465 Lift @ 260* Duration. Should be a lot of fun.

No changing of shape really, just a good cleaning. It should breath a LOT better. Never really bothered to look into the head too close. There was a lot of shit in there.

While I am waiting I decided to clean up the radiator and mount my electric fan.

Image

Also decided the distributor looks like shit and needed a bath too. Nothing shinny, just knock the big chunks off. Ya right.

Cleanup work looks great -- especially the head.

Thanks. I was a little nervous that I would screw it up. I just port matched the exhaust manifold, cleaned the flashing around the intake and exhaust seats, softened the short side radius under the exhaust seat. Mine were damn near a 90* shelf the flow had to go around. I also removed any extra flashing left from the foundry and polish the chambers and pistons.
I am pretty excited. I have done a lot of V8 engines..ford,chevy, never a 4 cyl. I'm looking forward to seeing the effects of a cam and some very mild port work in this little L20.

DUDE, Hate to break the bad news to you, but a U67 head will NOT fit on a VG30. It looks like it might have too many valves and a timing chain cavity.

Seriously though, cleanup work is looking great.

Went to Eugene to see DenmarkBoy. Looking at a 720 he has for my future son-in-law. Passed on the truck but did manage to pickup a nice clean square port exhaust manifold. Other than a stud kit, it looks really good.

Kinda.................... Upon further inspection I found these odd little bumps in the way of the exiting gasses. THAT SHIT HAS TO GO!

Found a couple different pockets of air. This was the worst one. It made me a little nervous. Pretty big pocket in a really shitty spot. It cleaned out just in time to look killer when done.

All done and ready to flow. Now for the other end..............

YUP, That ported quite nicely. Might as well go get it ceramic coated too. 8-)

Yet I am still confused, I just can't visualize how that manifold is going to bolt up properly to a VG30 head.

Nice work cleaning those up - now I wished I had done that to my exhaust when I replaced the motor on my 620.

It WILL end up with a VG at some point. I want the shop up first. I have too much planned to just do it in the drive way this time. Plus I have ALWAYS wanted a L series with a nice cam and some good shit to accent it.

Ya, I wanted a "built" L motor for a long time too. Skipped that step though, I bet I never own another L motor now though. Well, I guess I might, but only to make it run properly to sell it. I next time comes around, I might even skip the VG and go bigger.

I hear ya on the L series. Ya, their old, out dated, lack the power of more modern shit. Their still fun as hell. I just like the old shit and want to play on the cheap.

I would LOVE the VQ35HR.

Today on the truck I ran out to Z Therapy to BS with Steve a while. Took my very worn out distributor to ask how to take the star off the top half. So that is all back together and ready to install. Just waiting on the machine shop to call. So now I'll start cleaning the engine bay and getting it ready.
