Yup, Explorer. I've been collecting them for the April swap meet. Going in the morning for 3 more.

That's the plan. PickNPull 1/2 off sale puts them at just over $100 out the door. I'll price them between $3-400 depending on condition. Pretty good profit considering the small amount of work involved. It's a joint effort with a guy I work with. Takes the 2 of us about 20 mins to pull one. They're being stored at my house then he'll take them to the swap meet and sell them. If any are left I'll put them on CL.

5.0 Explorers weren't too common. Probably better luck in a Mountaineer -- also not too common. Didn't they get the GT40 heads too?

It's officially restarted. They flat towed it from my brother's house a couple nights ago. Then the old 9" miraculously got uninstalled. The best part is that everything that's happened so far was done by our dad while he was in town earlier this week. I guess he gets bored when we're at work.



And this was the best 8.8 of the bunch so I snagged it for this project.

I dragged the 8.8 into the middle of the floor and cut the old mounts off. My nephew was with my brother so we put him to work. Truck will probably be his someday.

We set it up in place, set the angles, tacked the mounts, measured for the new driveline, and dropped it back out. Then welded the mounts on solid. Set it up on sawhorses for a coat of good primer/sealer.


Then he knocked the rust off of the old springs for a fresh coat of paint.

Then we set it back in place and hung the rotors and calipers. Now we wait for the driveline to be finished. He also needs to get longer U-bolts since he's running 2" lowering blocks.

I wish axle swaps were that easy for our wagons...

And good job getting the kid learning early. The single best thing for me was having nearly free range of the garage when I was a kid, stifled only by my imagination and not tools.

Yeah, it's cool that he's getting to the age where he wants to help. There's a '62(?) bug at his house with his name on it that he's starting to get excited about. Big changes going on right now at their house right now but hopefully when the dust settles that project can start soon.

I might know of another bug, with the Hitler flares on it, sans motor...

It's a total project that pretty much needs everything. Biggest problem is...no title. My brother got it in trade for a nonrunning Volvo 145 that also had no title. I think what he'd ultimately like to do is buy a '69-up bug with paperwork and put the '62 body on it. That would give him IRS and balljoint frontend. They handle a little better.
