Bought the book, "How to modify your Bosch fuel injection system" from 1992 off Amazon. I can tune the car to not miss in mid range, but it's overly too rich. If I lean out the mixture screw, it runs great until 3250 and 3750 rpm under light load. Thinking I may have to adjust the trigger wheel, but I'm now waiting until I get that book. Then I'll read through it like the Datsun bible and figure out the correct way to fiddle with this archaic system. Really want to be able to get it dialed in without going to an expensive (better) new system.

I keep reading you referring to "the Datsun Bible". Is that like a notebook you have full of info or is there an actual book you're talking about?

Possibly the "how to keep your Datsun/Nissan alive" book?

No, I have the Datsun Bible. This is a different book. "How to Tune and Modify Bosch Fuel Injection" by Ben Watson. WELL worth the read for our archaic early 80s EFI systems. I thought it was missing the information I had until I scanned the glossary more. The modification section is short and at the end of the book, but VERY helpful. It mentions specifically the AFM going lean at 3000-3500 rpm with performance modifications due to the AFM being calibrated for nice EPA regulations. It confirmed I do need to lessen the spring tension on the potentiometer spring. The other option is verifying or changing pin positions and using a different airflow meter from another application provided the rate of change is similar enough. I suspect I won't have to do that since my motor is hot, but not a race motor.

I was squealing with glee this morning for the simple information that verified the problems I've been having and outlined how to start fixing them. I was on the right track, and this book confirmed it! :)

Yeah I knew the fuel injection book was different, I've just never seen a book named "the Datsun Bible" and was wondering about it.


And sometimes there is no better feeling than confirmation of something you already suspected.

Yeah, I fiddled with it a little, still haven't gotten it as good as I want it. Rather annoying with the information I have. Taking a break from her this weekend, I'll fiddle with her in a while and see if I can make her perform correctly.

Fucking EFI is fucking pissing me off. I'm getting close to yanking the head and filling in injector holes and doing dual SUs that I know work and are bone fucking simple.

I'm taking this Sunday to do my last fiddling with the EFI in an effort to get it to work. However, I have a working set of dual SUs from the 280z racecar before it was turboed, and they allegedly work fine. And I love SUs because they're simple. And I'd gain horsepower due to much bigger intakes and shorter runners for high end hp. I'll lose out on mileage by about 4 mpg, but I have everything to convert Wynona to carbs. And really, if I still maintain 20-22 mpg, that wouldn't upset me too much if I gained 20 hp, which is probably about right considering there won't be a restrictive air flow meter in the way.

We will see what Sunday brings. I may just go for power and old-school it.

Lol, I have a few things to try, tomorrow is a car day. Wynona and Rosebud. (Rx7) I'm still going to try to use the efi because it would be easier, but I do like sus. We'll see. Sorry I'm missing the BBQ! Is canby this weekend or next?

Checked it out, looks wet! :) I drove Rosebud down from Cheney tonight. Carbs work great. Think that's going to dictate which direction the wagon is headed.
